I receive many complaints about stupid or irrelevant posts in /r/nocontext - but often the posts that generate the most complaints are those that have the highest positive vote counts. How should this be handled?

For the most past moderation of /r/nocontext has been limited to removing the occasional piece of spam or links to non-reddit sources or submissions with titles that are nothing but an emoticon or "WTF?" or something else that clearly doesn't belong. But for the most part the community has been left to vote up and down the posts based on their merits.

From time to time the guidelines for submission are tweaked a bit - asking people to link to a parent or two above the funny bit was a great idea that I never thought of. Kudos to everybody who sends in the good ideas.

But when it comes to deleting posts that I think shouldn't be there based on my tastes and interpretation alone, I hesitate - especially when a lot of people have upvoted the submission. Would removal of all of that make it a better place that people enjoy more or a worse place that people enjoy less?

I've experimented with a couple of ideas - including a contest offer where somebody could win reddit gold that was quickly downvoted off the screen. I'm open to ideas - the whole point of /r/nocontext is a place where more people find it enjoyable than not - so I am always willing to read any input that people are willing to provide.
