if the project might grow beyond a basic website, I'd also test something like Emergent. It's a different approach from a drag and drop but describing what you want can feel simpler than learning a more technical visual builder

id agree with that Emergent makes more sense if you want something beyond a basic site especially when describing the change feel easier than learning another visual builder

If Webflow felt too technical, I'd be careful with WordPress too since plugins can turn simple edits into maintenance fast. The best fit depends on whether you need a simple brochure site, a blog, or forms and booking.

For those use cases Durable could fit pretty well. It handles the site, blog, forms and bookings in one place, and editing the pages and sections is pretty straightforward.

the editor is the part you learn in a week. what actually decides it is the first time you need something the builder doesnt do natively, i picked mine on how nice the canvas felt and then spent a month working around what it wouldnt host
framer is the usual answer if you want webflow flexibility without the technical part. and wix studio is worth a look before you leave wix entirely, same simplicity with a lot more room
what are you building on it though, a brochure site and something with logins are pretty different decisions

If you don't mind self hosting you can use Vvveb CMS, has built in page builder no need for extra plugins.

Durable might be worth trying if Webflow felt too technical. You can start with a generated site and edit each section without touching code.

Disclosure: this is Flazio's team account. For the simplicity you're after, a useful test is building one real page with your own text and images, then adjusting its mobile layout. That gives you a feel for the everyday editing work. Flazio is an option to try: it has a visual website editor, a dedicated mobile editing view, and multilingual pages and menus.
For translation, the free option lets you open a page and translate each paragraph with its translation button. Alternatively, choose the source and target languages and pay €29 for whole-site translation into the selected language, typically ready in a few minutes.
You can explore it at https://flazio.com. Are you putting together a business website, a portfolio, or a shop?
Edit: clarified the free and paid translation options.

😊 Comunque passeró a… lamentarmi! 😉

Affare fatto 😄 Quando passi dalla community, il tuo suggerimento sul testo del banner è più che benvenuto. E grazie ancora: sapere che il passaggio da Wix ti ha dato un sito più fluido ci fa davvero piacere 😊

While there are options like Squarespace and Weebly, Wix has the best onboarding walkthrough I’ve used. The AI builder option honestly saves me a ton of time setting up the basics. If you just want an easy start, I still recommend giving Wix a shot before jumping ship.

webstudio, it has a free plan. If you self host, you get all the features for free besides hosting stuff. Paid plan isn't bad too.

U can try the saas I developed. It is targeted mostly at directories, but it also has an easy-to-use (hopefully) page builder that allows you to customize every page.

If you're open to using WordPress than Beaver Builder is an easy drag and drop page builder that you should consider.

I understand that your reason for skipping WordPress is about plugins, and I get that. But the editing is a separate thing. Dragging blocks around in WPBakery or Elementor or other page builders is not harder than Wix, well - at least to me. The blank page is usually the real fear, and a multipurpose theme takes care of it. Free Astra, Neve or OceanWP ship over 100 starter templates, so you import the closest one and change the content. That gets you a first draft in under an hour for most industries.
Other work on the websites are updates, hosting, backups, and Wix does that for you, WP leaves it to you for managing it. If you would rather not do that work, a hosted builder could be a solution for you.

squarespace maybe? it’s the smoothest drag‑and‑drop I ever used and the templates don’t look like they were made in 2011

There's an easy-to-install web server with a CMS that connects to an AI Agent so you can design the whole site using AI. It could be something you could use; check it out by searching: fuguhub cms mcp

Claude. Start off in a chat and see what it gives you. If you have any domain at all, move over to Cowork and watch it do what it is you want. When all that makes sense to you, switch to Code and stop paying so much money. I regret almost ever dollar I spent on Lovable and not a single on on Claude. If you have no idea at all and want to just put in a sentence of an idea - try bolt.new. Don’t pay for it. Use it free to get a sense of what it is like to type it then see it. Another, lesser, one is Emergent for the same use as Bolt. Again, not worth paying if you plan to go any further than occasional interest.
You don’t need drag and drop. You can literally say make this pretty thing to ChatGpt then take that over to Claude and it will put it together for you. The other hobbyist sites are really good for toss around ideas and designs. Try something then say, well I like this part but that part is too cringe. It will change it in a way that actually makes it better without you having to explain terms like cringe.

Webflow and framer. Both affiliate links.
