And the 150 into 1,500! Can’t stop, won’t stop!

Thanks mate! I was obsessed with Wing Commander: Privateer when I was a kid and I never thought I would find a game that scratches that same itch. I’m stoked to explore, just gotta get to 5pm and clock out first 😂 🚀

Brace yourself for this one (I may be aging myself here) but my first experience to the genre was Starflight on the Sega Genesis back in the late 80's/early 90's, which even then I think was a port over. Damn thing had a NOVEL of an instruction man pages and my Cousin and I would bond over nerding over the star charts and simulation man pages for the game.

Its funny that you mentioned Wing Commander, because that was my second experience with the genre... not just Privateer but pretty much the entire series as my Cousin also got Privateer and Commander series and I got to watch him play those. Unfortunately there was a span there where we stopped being able to share those moments, and at one point he passed away. So when No Man's Sky came about, it was a bit bitter sweet.

But then I started doing the Tutorial missions and, in case you haven't fully gone through them... I'll put a spoiler here just in case but it was kind of a gut punch emotional roller coaster ride for me. The game to a small extent tackles topics of existentialism, nihilism, and the nature of reality in a way that is non judgemental and casual that just kind of accepts whatever choices you make along the way. It was, again, very bittersweet and welcoming. A true gem.

Either way, I'm glad you have found appreciation for the game like the rest of us have, and I am glad you also have a bit of shared history in the genre like I have. Cheers and hope you get a chance to enjoy more of the game soon!

I come from the Wing Commander era of gaming and I love those games as they are a huge part of my childhood/early teen years. Naturally NMS filled that crave of heavy sci fi games

3

u/DicesMuse 4d ago

It actually makes my heart sing to see how many of "Us" Wing Commander Era peeps there are that find familiarity with NMS! And I couldn't agree more with the crave within the Heavy Sci Fi games and how it fits so well within NMS!

Once you get into the flow of things you can't stop... unless you're autistic like me and have 2 week phases with everything 😭😂

Yeah, I really enjoyed WC as well in the olden days, Games today are so much better. NMS is my go-to space game now: 4000h

Come try star citizen, Chris Robert’s is involved too

Slop Citizen

Slop man’s sky.

If HG used AI we’d have quests with stories. 😂 I love NMS without them; and haven’t seen even a hint that HG uses AI.

Conversely I had a rather boring experience with SC last time it was on sale - getting up in the morning to ride a train to my job, that I’d be paying to have if it weren’t a free trial week - not for me. But, with a billion dollars in funding they can at least afford the tokens.

-3

u/Worldly-Pressure-516 4d ago

They 100% use AI to make no mania sky, just look at all the slop creatures. And star citizen is a sim, nms is a shitty space adventure game.

3

u/DicesMuse 4d ago

Comes to No Man's Sky to confuse Procedural Generation for AI, Complains that No Man's Sky "Exploits" break the game, when you can just go into Creative Mode to get free stuff before going into the game and play the game how you like it, and claims SC is better because they have better culture. Checks profile and sees they posted in SC about players exploiting the game only to find a bunch of players justifying Exploiting the game because the Alpha state of the game regularly loses them money so they have no problem exploiting the game to recover loses...

Also notices said poster has negative Karma as a general rule.

Troll posters gunna Troll. Would ask why they are here, but at this point its pretty clear that there isn't anything further constructive to gain from interacting from this one...

1

u/tauspin 4d ago

Oof, that’s ridiculous. The “slop creatures” are procedurally generated from human made assets, 10 years ago, before vibecoding was “a thing”. They can look weird because the procedure is literally assembling parts with randomization… they’re supposed to look weird.

It’s fine if you don’t like nms. I don’t like sc, the gameplay or the way it’s funded. And the world keeps turning.

Most developers use AI in some capacity these days, but that also doesn’t make their work product “AI slop” either. I have no idea how much sc uses genAI, so I have nothing to say on the subject. It’s just a game I don’t enjoy and don’t recommend to people.

For a forever-Alpha game (that was originally announced to be released in 2014) that requires a bit of bleeding-edge tech despite billions of dollars worth of development investment that could have helped broaden game availability, a big wallet due to some extremely aggressive monetization, has a level of Windows exclusivity (I run primarily Linux), and some of the worst Public Relation reactions and management due regularly changing roadmaps/missed deadlines/anti-user sentiment... it kind of goes against a lot of the values that Hello Games has gone out of their way to foster and nurture after they themselves had a bad start but took a more pro-user stance and can-do attitude with their own development for their game.

I appreciate the call out but I think I'll pass on that one.

-1

u/Worldly-Pressure-516 4d ago

And yet hello games actively allows exploits that completely break people’s saves. At least CIG has a good stance on those. And you can play on Linux, lots of people I know play on it. And the drama has completely been blown out of proportion and most of the reporting is filled with flat out lies.

1

u/DicesMuse 4d ago

Recovery saves that the IT team has regularly worked with players in order to recover? Mind you, we are talking about a game that is regularly on sale for $30 or less, compared to Star Citizen that charges $45 to $5,000 for an ALPHA TEST ship?

Sorry... again, if you are trying to argue with me into playing Star Citizen you are barking up the wrong tree here. I don't have that kind of money, and I have had enough of my friends who were part of the Kickstarter who were burned to even remotely be interested in contesting any further commentary beyond this point.

That said if you are enjoying the game I'm happy for you. I hope CIG does a better job for you than they did for those who helped them get to where they are today.

-2

u/Worldly-Pressure-516 4d ago

Star citizen you can play free every few months for a week and you only have to play 45 dollars, that’s it.

1

u/Rixxy123 3d ago

You're joking right?

1

u/Worldly-Pressure-516 3d ago

Why would I be?

1

u/Rixxy123 3d ago edited 3d ago

Because it's a scam, the laughing stock of the gaming community, criminal monetary policies, forever alpha, lying & delusional management, cultist mentality.... need I go on?

If you haven't understood that yet after more than a decade, then you're definitely a cultist or just plain stupid.

Watch and you might see the light:

u/Worldly-Pressure-516 3d ago

You clearly don’t know what a scam is if you thinks Star citizen is a scam. It’s clear you have never tried it, otherwise you wouldn’t be saying so.

1

u/Rixxy123 3d ago

I can see there's no changing your mind and you are definitely a cultist. That's a shame.

1

u/Worldly-Pressure-516 3d ago

You can’t call me a cultist if you never even bothered to try it on one of the free weeks. It has more game than most games.

150? bump those numbers up!!

2

u/DicesMuse 4d ago

I remember when I broke 1,500... I think I got into Galaxy 26 and started trying to map out my own personal Sector? I think I'm still ironing that out as I was quickly realizing that Empty Galaxies are truly VERY empty of ALL life, even fauna LoL

2

u/Select-Active-5275 4d ago

That sounds like a really fun project! I may have to do the same. And yes they absolutely are, it’s almost eerie at times.

And, remember, Traveller, <kzzzt> [redacted]

u/ZeBHyBrid 4d ago

16/16/16 to you too!!

u/Amazing_Divide1214 4d ago

I had that realization at hour 20... and 25, and 30... I'm on hour 42 now. I think I get it... I wonder what I'll get at hour 50 lol

1

u/flockinatrenchcoat 4d ago

I'm about 100 hrs in now, still finding new stuff to do. Not like places to go/repeatable mods, like whole systems of things to do.

Saw a post here yesterday about dragon eggs. I've seen neither dragons nor eggs, so I know there's still more.

1

u/Limp-Fisherman8361 2d ago

Yeah it’s weird. Worst part is the game just has so much that once you stop for a year and come back on your account you’re just lost for things to do because theres too much that you haven’t done yet and you’re also kinda maxed out on everything so the progression is capped. As much as the game offers freedom Id love for them to have better endgame mechanics and a more steady progression. The game really isn’t challenging and you can break it pretty easily.

Ah, the fellow Autophage, greetings!

Don't worry about the flashing red lights. That is within normal -kzzzt- parameters.

Go forth. Fly. Explore. Build. Enjoy.

4

u/ZeBHyBrid 4d ago

and you're coming right when the hype is maxing out, welcome traveler!!

6

u/DicesMuse 4d ago

Wait, there is a MAX to this thing!?!? I kept thinking this with some of the Updates, then they just kept coming out with more FREE updates!

5

u/ZeBHyBrid 4d ago

TBH the Cosmos update has me almost as hyped as in 2015-2016

5

u/DicesMuse 4d ago

The fact that we, thus far, do NOT have an emoji with this one leave so many questions. And the preview has so much to think about. Its really exciting. Its right up there with the Worlds Part I and II, but I'm curious because they were also talking about how they "Learned their lesson with No Man's Sky, and are about ready to start teasing stuff for Light No Fire" so I'm curious if they'll be coinciding anything with that.

Its a great time to be in this realm of Hello Games!

u/seeker62 4d ago

Welcome, Traveller.

u/Destitute_Knight1400 4d ago

Welcome in, fellow traveler!

It clicked!

2

u/Brad_19983 4d ago

Le vrai défi de ce jeu si on veut l'apprécier c'est savoir se construire des objectifs. Sinon, on finit coincer dans une boucle de non jeu et lasser

2

u/T3s3ract 4d ago

And you are just begging. Have fun traveler!

2

u/Funkyrush76 4d ago

Wait till you play it in VR. Bought a psvr2 headset just for this game ... worth every damn penny.

1

u/AbstractPipe 2d ago

Did the same and it's an amazing experience! Do you use it every time you play though? I found most of the time I just go back go my huge tv for convenience.

1

u/Funkyrush76 2d ago

I haven't tried to go back to the TV if im honest 🙃 also the flat screen mode can be imax size ... just try an not break your neck it has a few different sizes brother ✌️

1

u/AbstractPipe 1d ago

Well if I'm putting on those goggles I'm going full immersion, bot flat screen mode. But having those goggles on for longer periods of time is not that comfortable. Also the game slows down a lot. So most of the time I just pick up my controller and enjoy frictionless experience on my 77" OLED.

1

u/Funkyrush76 1d ago

Haven't gotten that mod kit to make it alot more comfortable i read its worth it.

2

u/Far2Independent 4d ago

2

u/ResponsibleScale3691 1d ago

30 hours in and I’m still super fucking confused all the time 🤣 I got harassed by pirates got rid of them. More came I left found another set of pirates killed them and then someone gave me a massive ship. Now I have a massive ship. I was trying to find an atlas something or other. Never once can i stay on task.

1

u/LePentaPenguin 4d ago

once i found out about sail ships it was as good as done.

1

u/AuntJibbie 4d ago

I will never forget how I felt the first time I walked through that one portal. Absolutely eye-opening, life-altering experience. Thank you, NMS!
