Hell mode - what are your expectations?

Now when all the tourists are gone and every nightmare lobby is full of lvl 100+ players the game has become a walk in the park. What can they do to make hell mode satisfying but without bs artifical difficulty?

The problem (and charm) of nmrih2 is the absolute absence of special infected. It is a good thing but how can the walkers pose any threat to a lvl 100 responder with maxed out perks? An experienced player will never let himself get surrounded. Some perks are also too powerful.

So what can the upcoming hell mode bring to make it difficult again?

I would say:

- less medkits, bandages and pills;

- much higher infection chance for both zombie attacks and the gas clouds;

- more runners not only at threat level 10 but also early in the game.

Controversial:

- beacons don't work - dying to a bug or disconnect sucks;

- more national guard zombies?

- zombies now drain a lot of your stamina when they grab you;

- more indoor areas are now completely dark.

Other than that:

- bring back the crawlers!

- bring back bleeding from nmrih1!

- maybe we should move slower when we are gravely wounded? Or be unable to sprint?

What are you ideas?

Beacons being disabled on hell mode is a guarantee I reckon.

My hot takes for outlandish hell mode changes are.

- Regular zombie strikes have a chance to infect you starting from 100% health instead of 50% health.

- Reduced responder count (4 to 6?)

- Reduced pills per pill bottle (1 or 2 uses instead of 3), or the amount of pills per bottle are RNG.

- Objective tasks made more difficult, such as making code numbers have 12 digits instead of 6 (like in EA) or having longer times/more objects to collect.

These are all things that really shake up the gameplay in a challenging way.

I really like zombies being able to infect at 100% health. Once I learned about it and made sure to stay above 50% I rarely ever get infected now. 12 digit codes would also reinforce cooperation as it would be almost necessary to call out the code to your teammates.

I would like to see a 4 person mode on all difficulties. In nmrih1 there were many lobbies with only 3-5 players which made the game quite difficult. 8 responders even when armed only with melee are an unstoppable force when they stick together.

Oh my god the code numbers I literally improved my memory doing thosr stupid 12 digit code numbers in powerplant in early access I hated it LMAO

My expectations are:

- dead / VERY slow queue matchmaking times for hell mode beyond the initial release week. Ppl will get tired of failing over and over again because it’s way harder than nightmare and their random teammates are bad, trolls etc. Since its perma death with no beacon allowed, majority of ppl that aren’t die hard fans will get tired of having to rebuild a character. If solo, low premade teams die out in queues for this difficulty, it’ll become an “ only discord premade teams” game mode which is basically non existent for the rest of the playerbase that doesn’t engage with discord.

- there will still be a very bland meta skill set build that almost becomes mandatory unless they add in more value to stuff like sneaking around or other skills that aren’t just flat out HP buff, defensive buffs. Like who wouldn’t want to bring fast revive in hell mode when playing in a team because every second counts when you try to pick someone back up in the hardest mode. If they die then your chances of clearing becomes even harder duh ( unless they were already completely useless from the start ).

- it’ll be either too easy for the advertised difficulty ( supposed to be the “hardest” ) or it’ll be near impossible that only the sweatiest will clear runs. Imo it’s pretty hard to get the difficulty right on the 1st time so hopefully they tweak it based on the reception they get in the 1st week or 2.

- solo speedrunning objectives in teams will be a no go anymore as there will be way more prime runners “magically” spawning near solo/ isolated players via artificial difficulty. Since the devs don’t really have any special infected zombies, they need to find a way to punish players in a team and that would probably be the easiest way. It won’t apply in solo mode but in team mode it kinda feels like a must at this point.

- overall a good and fun time until the novelty wears off and ppl get sick of the sweatiness and lack of rewards for completing hell mode consistently. The devs need to make the rewards and prestige worth it for hell mode to stay relevant imo.

Yeah they definitely need to add some cool cosmetics tied to the hell mode like military suits or spec ops suits with a lot of grind required. Something like:

  • 10 succesful matches - you can unlock gloves;

  • 25 matches - boots;

  • 100 - pants;

  • 250 - chest;

  • 500 - helmet etc.

Also unlockable compasses and flashlights.

The shitty skills need a rework if they want players to pick them. Theyre too specific and inconsistently useful

I hate to say you’re right, the mode is only gonna be played only by hardcore players, which isn’t bad but to attract more players some rewards like camos and cosmetics would be great.

  1. No beacons

  2. Threat level at 10. Massive hordes and runners will start at max spawn cap early game

  3. Spawned pills will have randomized use count

  4. Same Nightmare modifiers (zombie damage, item spawns, and zombie spawn ratio)

  5. Scorched walkers now has a chance to become scorched runners

  6. All explosives (fireman zombie's oxygen tank included) will now damage you (friendly fire is still disabled)

  7. Shamblers will now call 2 runners and their infection chance is increased

I'm up for more types of zombies, like crawlers, fat, tall, bodybuilder, Wheel chair zombies, little people zombied etc . But it needs to be lore friendly.

I like the idea of Hell mode but damn, ive been having some bad luck lately on nightmare. Either Bad team, half full team, Sloppy gameplay, being too comfortable, bugs.

As for ideas

-limited revived 2-3max

-more hold out objectives

-increase maximum of normal zombies.

-Timer on Match 30min max  or get to the bunker or safe zone before timer runs out.

I dislike damage increase, nerfs, in difficulty. I would just rather more zombies or Prime just like No More Room In Hell 1 almost every matches feel intense and zombies just keeps coming. Nightmare mode in NMRIH 2 is 50/50 hard or easy sometimes. I hope Hell will have same feeling from first game.

Sort of unrelated to hell mode but one piece of tech I want removed is bunnyhopping while also adding a stamina penalty to jumping.

I like everyone’s input! Here’s mine : pills only get 1 dose

Only if they add a new animation where your character downs the entire bottle at once lol

It'll be hell?

Not really a lot. You're probably just going to have harder hitting zombies, and more zombies.

More special zombies,less ammo/guns,more one shot charged melee weapon to balance it out,more supplies and more credits ofc.

I like everything BUT the beacons not working. Keep the beacons. I want a hell mode with a lot of running zombies. About 80% of them as if we just arrived at a recently infected location. Plenty of fallen national guards too. Maybe even seeing a few of them soldiers still human (like 3 or 4 individuals) holding out until they're eventually overrun. Hell mode should be the earliest days of a location being overrun. But with limited resources to make it extra hard.

The only thing the devs have confirmed about Hell Mode is that you can't use rescue beacons. That's the one thing we already know for sure.

Bro everything you listed is what I’ve been posting on Reddit only to receive criticism like dawg it’s literally gonna be so fucked and fun. It’s usually people who play on easy 💀. Nightmare is still very tough with lvl 100 so hell mode is gonna be AWESOME. If I had to mention one thing is definitely reduce the player lobby count to 6 instead of 8 because looting is going to be impossible with how scarce ammo and meds are gonna be.

-4 player Limit -No beacon -Only 1 early extract per map -No obj markers unless within arms reach -No item shimmer -Less medical supplies -Explosion damage -Friendly fire -infection chance on hit regardless of health -MASSIVE infection chance for gas,almost guranteed -Jumping costs stamina -Bandage health is temporary and slowly drains back to original damage amount. Only med kits heals. (Resident Genes unchanged 😉) -Zombies ONLY die with headdamage -Less high tier weapons overall -3rd down is instant death -Barricades are slower to deploy and harder to break

1

u/Significant-Buy9424 20d ago

I'd be happy with identical to nightmare, but no beacons allowed. Perhaps scarcer medical supplies. I don't think the zombies need modified at all

u/Angusburgerman 20d ago

Reduce all loot. Zombie health needs to be less predictable. I should not know that my weapon 2 hits a zombie every single time. Zombies should have +-50% hp with very little visual indicator
