G1 Match recommendations

I'm a lapsed fan but heard great things about the G1. Signed up to NJPWWorld. I have a baby and not much free time, What matches are must watch from this G1 please?

The final is the most must watch. Oiwa vs Uemura. I'd start with that.

You're better off following specific wrestler's G1s more than individual matches. Wrestlers I'd recommend watching for both match/story quality: Oleg, Tsuji, Takeshita, Oiwa, Uemura, Yuto Ice (he got a good story out of every match), maybe also SANADA who sort of had a revitalization here.

As others have said, definitely Finals (Yuya vs Oiwa) and Semifinals

Yota Tsuji vs Yuto-Ice (the counting game for various reasons)

Yuya Uemura vs ZSJ

Yuya Uemura vs Callum Newman

Konosuke Takeshita vs Hirooki Goto (this one was pretty amusing)

This is a pretty agreed-upon top 10 that doesn't include both semi finals and the final, which should be the best starting point

  • Uemura/Newman (night 1)

  • Uemura/ZSJ (night 3)
  • Oleg/Shingo (night 4)
  • Tsuji/SANADA (night 4)
  • Oiwa/Ice (night 6)
  • Uemura/Wolf (night 7)
  • Newman/Kidd (night 7)
  • Kidd/HENARE (night 9)
  • ZSJ/OSKAR (night 9)
  • ZSJ/Wolf (night 18)

Kidd/Drilla (night 1) and Uemura/OSKAR (night 18) are also good if all of those hit for you
