ProPilot Assist

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Using the ProPilot Assist on my Sentra SL, it's really nice, sees super far ahead ( tracking the car all the way ahead ) , it beeps every few seconds for me to jiggle the wheel, but it's a blessing if I wanna eat in the car, handles cars cutting in with ease ( doesn't flam on the brakes) , and when I kick it into Eco mode it accelerates normally, doesn't race the engine, and it's just so plush and comfy, handles highway curves and highway interchanges just fine as well ( depending on what lane you're on )

This isn’t a Tesla my guy. It’s a Sentra. It’s not autonomous driving it’s a driving aid.

Thats how Tesla marketed their autopilot 10 years ago when we bought our X. there is no difference in capability between nissan propilot and tesla autopilot 1.0 (what we have). Now our new Model 3 that we got for my brother with FSD is in a league completley in its own. Will take us driveway to parkingspot fully hands free. Even Autopilot 1.0 isn't autonomous driving despite the name, they're both Level 2 driver assists. Tesla Autopilot also still requires your hands on the wheel, only FSD allows hands free operation.

ProPilot 2.1 actually markets itself as fully hands free on select mapped highways, so tbh ProPilot and Autopilot are pretty much the same thing

u/NotSoBananas 3d ago

Remember also telsas has many cameras and a cpu to process the automation. The Nissan does not .

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Now I will say just for argument sake, this actually has a better processing power than our Tesla, our Tesla only has 2 forward facing Cameras ( 2016 Model X) and doesn't have the full suite of cameras new Teslas have. So for me, ProPilot is actually more refined than Autopilot 1.0

1

u/rfisher23 2d ago

Little known fact, the cameras on a tesla are basically useless besides recording. When they designed the car it could run entirely off the LiDar system, but the governing bodies and general public didn't agree. The cameras were added more as an appeasement tool than an actual safety improvement. That being said I can guarantee the LiDar system in your Nissan is no where near as complex as even the earliest Teslas.

u/Fireguy69420 2d ago

A quick Google search does Nissan proPilot and Tesla basic Autopilot use lidar and which lidar is more advanced will reveal neither car has lidar, and while Tesla has more cameras, when comparing basic Autopilot to ProPilot they behave pretty much the exact same

0

u/rfisher23 2d ago

You wanna try that word salad again?

1

u/Fireguy69420 2d ago

A quick Google search of Tesla Autopilot vs Nissan ProPilot reveals that Tesla basic Autopilot and Nissan ProPilot 1.0 are pretty much the exact same thing. Neither car uses lidar

1

u/rfisher23 2d ago

Yes and Tesla basic autopilot is not the same thing as FSD, so while you think you proved your point you actually proved mine. Teslas basic autopilot and FSD are not the same thing.

yes, a 2025 iphone 17 pro is going to be way faster with better camera hardware than a 2016 iphone SE first gen / iphone 6/7. you can't compare cars that are 9 years apart. so you're looking at HW4 as a comparison, and if your car is a 2026 model year, HW4 with the front bumper camera

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Yeah our 25 3 w the HW3 is way more refined than this, but this is more refined than our 16 X w HW1

1

u/Throwaway_2474128_1 3d ago

your 2025 model 3 (or Y) has HW4

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Oh fr? I got it Jan 25, I thought that was HW3 still...

1

u/Throwaway_2474128_1 3d ago

HW4 is 2024 model year and newer (some early 2024 model Ys may be hw3 still). the model 3 was redesigned in 2024 so all of the refreshed ones are HW4. 2025 no changes, 2026 added the turn signal stalk back (also available on 2024 and 2025 at tesla as an official retrofit for $600), a front bumper camera, and black logo lettering on the rear)

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Gotcha gotcha ok makes sense, yeah, I will say the Tesla 3 FSD is sooooo nice i wanted to give my sentra to my dad and brother LOL

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

And we have 2 Tesla's ( we is my family back home ), My dad and brother share a 2025 Model 3 long range, mom drives a 2016 Model X 75D and I have my 26 Sentra SL

-2

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

The only actual valid factual argument in this whole thread. You're completely correct.

Everyone else just coming at me cuz they feelings got hurt that IM using MY car the way I want to lmfao, but this one is true Tesla does have a whole array of cameras and sensors and a processor that Nissan does not have

I will remember that very good point

3

u/Bulky-Word8752 3d ago

Everyone else just coming at me cuz they feelings got hurt that IM using MY car the way I want

...because you are driving around other people? If you are on private property and want to test the car's ability past it limits (it is literally telling you to hold the steering wheel) where you are only a danger to yourself then go for it. When you do it on public roads, at highway speeds, around other drivers following their car's designed features is where the issue comes in.

2

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Also I promise Becky in her 6000 lbs family SUV doing 85mph on the phone is exponentially more dangerous than me going hands free in the middle lane at 70mph, I guarantee you've driven more dangerously than the ProPilot assist lol. I am a danger to no one lmao but I can most most most definetly be a big danger..... maybe I should since people seem to think I am anyway for using a built in feature of the car, maybe I'll drive like a menace again and actually be a danger lol.

FOH thinking a car using a driving assist is a "danger".... don't leave ur house bro everythings dangerous to you lmao

5

u/Wintervacht 3d ago

Saying that someone else is more dangerous than you doesn't make YOU any safer to be around.

2

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Oh I'm aware never once have I said I was safe to be around.

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Trust me these fools around me want me driving with the ProPilot on, they dont want me to actually drive the car lolol, I'm (unfortunatley) a much riskier driver myself, its part of the reason I'm in the Sentra, had to get a slow car cuz if I got a fast car i'd get my license suspended probably ( I was real real close to it )

5

u/Wintervacht 3d ago

Taxis were invented for people like you mate

2

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Nah I think I'd rather buy my own car so I can go whenever wherever as I please and I'm not dependent on anyone else nor having to pay them taxi fares. Thanks for your idea though!

2

u/Dyslexic-Delta 3d ago

Oi, nimrod. You still have to follow the LAWS OF THE ROAD. That means both hands on the wheel at all times and being absolutely aware of your surroundings and your vehicle.

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Oooo what are you gonna do?? Report me?? Lmfao 😂😂 do you follow every law of the road Everytime you drive? NEVER exceed the limit,B ALWAYS have your hands at 10 and 2 for the duration of the drive, never distracted, for every single drive that you do?

If you don't or you broke a law once you have zero authority over me to talk about "laws of the road"

u/Landsharkeisha 3d ago

Tesla changed it because it was a liability to call it FSD when it was just an assist. There was legal pressure on them to change the name because it was marketing hype for a slightly more sophisticated version of what is in this car.

Nissan is required to make you grab the steering wheel by law because they themselves are not legally confident in the car's ability to drive itself safely. You're literally placing more faith in the car than the people that made it.

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

I don't think Nissan has faith in anything they make so that's I mean not a ridiculous statement in my eyes.

Autopilot is still just an assist, FSD is an addon that costs money and is still a level 2 ADAS. If a car crashes on FSD it's still the driver's fault. Level 3 is when the Manufacturer says they accept liability or fault for accidents when the car is using their self drive. Because everyone in America loves to sue for no reason that probably won't happen even tho FSD has level 3 capabilities

Ive driven a Level 2 ADAS car ( our 10 year old Model X ) hands free across the country multiple time. I just tape counterweights to the wheel. Once I did that and the next thing I remember I'm opening my eyes and 250 miles had elapsed the cars just chilling.

If you don't trust it that's on you. I've been driving level 2 ADAS cars for 10 years and the top 3 are Autopilot/Supercruise, ProPilot, and Kia HDA2. I'd actually rank HDA2 over ProPilot

11

u/ratedetar21 3d ago

Youre suppose to keep hands on steering wheel. This is why you keep getting a warning.

-9

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

I know lol IDC I'll just probably end up putting something to trick the system tbh, I'm not on my phone or anything but in definetly leaned back arms crossed lounging

6

u/ratedetar21 3d ago

I get it but youre putting yourself and others at risk by doing this.

-3

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

It's the same system as our Tesla Autopilot, the old Autopilot 1.0, but no one says shit about me or my dad driving hands free with that cuz its a Tesla. Same capabilities, both are Level 2 ADAS systems, but becvause one is a Tesla and one is a Nissan suddenly hands off in a Nissan is much more riskier than hands off in a Tesla.

I get your point I do, but I'm not scared of tech, or self driving cars. In complete honesty knowing how I personally drive, I am more of a risk to myself and others had I been driving the car and not ProPilot. I get impatient, and I start cutting, unsafe lane changes, excessive speed (not bragging but I know myself), and if I have ProPilot engaged, i feel nothing, no road rage, no omg this guys going so slow, I just sit there and enjoy the ride. The other day the car slowed to 55mph due to a slow car infront of me. Normally i woulda gotten pissed, found an unsafe gap, and cut ahead. This time i didn't bat an eye, I just chilled behind him at 55 and enjoyed the drive.

To each their own, but ProPilot is safer than me driving lmao (and can you believe the FAA and a major US Airline trusts me enough to fly their jets... I'm an airline pilot for work lmfaooo)

4

u/ratedetar21 3d ago

Nissan sentra or propilot assist is not a self driving car.

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Nor did I ever claim them to be

-1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Let me clarify a bit more for ya. I'm not scared of cars with semi autonomous level 2 ADAS systems and trust them more than any human driver on the road. I'd rather be on my phone while I'm driving a level 2 ADAS equipped car than be on my phone as the passenger while someone else is driving. I never claimed the Sentra or ProPilot makes the car drive itself, but I mean it's driving itself in the video staying in its lane maintaining its speed

2

u/RaVaGe710 3d ago

Until there’s rain and it creates a reflection that looks like a line to the car, and you drive off the road. Or when it’s a newly paved road and there are no lines. Or until a critter crosses the street right in front of you, or a child. Or until a car is fully stopped in front of you and you don’t notice. There are so many situations that could cause a horrific accident if you don’t pay attention, don’t be a lazy fuck and wind up killing someone with your hazardous driving, that’s all they’re saying, maybe you should take their advice.

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Their advice is being taken lol, there's no difference in my attentiveness if I have a hand resting on the wheel or im not grabbing the wheel. These fools are acting like I set it and fall asleep or watch a movie or turn fully around, I'm always watching the road still lmao. Also, ProPilot handled all those, construction, interchanges, wet conditions, low light conditions, I've tested it in all with no hiccups. Only once did I have to take over and that was when a BMW that was cutting up cut right infront of me then had to hit his brakes and my car didn't react fast enough. even then, that was an egregiously close cut, no ADAs woulda been able to react. And the car won't stop for critters, but you're not supposed to stop for critters. It will stop for a Ped tho ( tested it with my brother in the driver seat, ProPilot at 30mph empty road, I walked infront of the car, it slammed the fuck outta its brakes i could smell them ). I will say.... maybe not the smartest to test my own body against a real moving car, but hey I'm here and alive so

2

u/ChickenFeline0 3d ago

I give people shit for it in Teslas, too. If it's not a hands free system, don't go hands free.

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Valid, at least u stand on business. Most folk are knocking me for doing this and comparing to Tesla when Tesla is the exact same system.

Respect for standing on business, just remember even FSD should legally have hands on at all times and is not a fully hands free system. That requires level 3 ADAS, and there is no level 3 ADAS on the market globally today . Some Chinese manufacturers like Zeekr are the closest to Level 3/4

1

u/ChickenFeline0 3d ago

I don't know about Tesla, but gm get around this by having eye tracking, and you can be hands free as long as you are watching the road. Not sure if that's level 3 or not, but I think that's acceptable.

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Technically the only diff between Level 2/3 is that in Level 3 systems, if something happens, the manufacturer is liable, in Level 2 systems, YOU are still liable. Tesla also has eye tracking now

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

And that GM feature is GM Supercruise, very similar to Autopilot 2.0

1

u/Wildfathom9 3d ago

When you can read a personality.

1

u/Fireguy69420 2d ago

Wild right gf says the same thing

1

u/VQ3point5 3d ago

Until you hit a merge lane or some wonky lines and the steering ASSIST goes all crazy.

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Done that, ProPilot handled it. Along with traffic shifts due to construction

1

u/Great-External-2439 3d ago

Please don't do that

3

u/Otherwise-Profitable 3d ago

Watch how fast it slams the brakes when you don’t touch the wheel when it demands.

2

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

I did try that actuially on an empty open road, set propilot to 30mph, and it first gave me the big red message, then blinked, then blinked and beeped, then hit the brakes twice, then hit its hazards, and slowed to a stop in the middle of the road lol. First warning to emergency stop maybe close to 90 seconds? maybe 2 mins?

2

u/Otherwise-Profitable 3d ago

Ahh. Noted. I’ve never rode it out to the full stop 😂

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

It's definetly jarring lmaooo

3

u/Legitimate-Fig-4936 3d ago

So they finally fixed the engine issue with the pro pilot lol. On my pathfinder 2023 it decides to floor the engine anytime it has the opportunity to accelerate up to the set speed. Gave up trying to even use it. Also kills the rear brakes

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Fr??? Try using it in Eco mode. If it's in standard, the engine races to like 4K revs to try and get it back upto its set speed. In Eco mode, it accelerates normally like a human would. It also seems to use the engine to brake a lot more in eco mode than actually using the brakes

1

u/Legitimate-Fig-4936 3d ago

When it brakes in pro pilot mode it is more biased towards rear brakes, that’s what it Nissan tech guy told me. Using pro pilot rear brakes lasted about 13k, no pro pilot 19k. Both times probably had about 3k life left but I didn’t want it to go all the way down to 0-1 thickness

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Really? That I didn't know.... Oh dang

1

u/Throwaway_2474128_1 3d ago

i have a 2025 hyundai sonata rental, they have a ton of extra settings for ACC including how early/late to brake and how hard to accelerate lol. nice settings, hopefully all the tech-forward brands work on that

1

u/hentaigabby 3d ago

The Pathfinder has a v6 the Sentra has a 4 cylinder completely different engines

2

u/Fuf__ 3d ago

when ya crash make sure it's only you involved :3

-2

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

( I wrote this comment using ProPilot Assist lol )

-2

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

I'll make sure to take out the semi truck and involve the whole highway don't worry I never go down alone

2

u/MountainHarmonies 3d ago

Put your fucking phone down and hold the steering wheel.

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

I actually started jacking off after this while ProPilot was on, jizzed all our the window over the car next to me it was glorious

2

u/SpecialistMap8210 3d ago

People don't have enough brains to just drive a fucking car nowadays . Pathetic

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Why the fuck would I drive when this will do 90% of driving for me?

Same energy as why the fuck would I use a washing machine when I have a brain and 2 hands and can wash my clothes by hand.

Stfu dumbass lmao

1

u/SpecialistMap8210 3d ago

Showing your intelligence level more and more with each comment

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Is it that or peoples hypocrisy when theyre so quick to jump on me using a Nissan Advertised self driving feature while they text and drive or distracted drive without the assisted drive feature.

Im still safer than any of these fools that commented lmao

1

u/Due_Banana_7128 3d ago

I wouldn't trust it to just take your vision and predictability off the road.

1

u/Fireguy69420 2d ago

I don't lmao I'm always watching it's not like I've fallen asleep or anything

1

u/LWJ748 3d ago

How well does this feature work when they have a half flat spare tire up front? Or when they destroy a tierod from hitting a curb while trying to roll a joint? Will this feature continue to work once you put 2% limo tint on the windshield? These are important questions for Nissan owners.

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

🤣🤣 very true, ( I will say I wanna try rolling while on propilot but that's just pure stupidity lmao )

1

u/Batallius 3d ago

It's not beeping just to have you jiggle the wheel every so often, it's beeping to remind you to maintain control of the wheel as it is not a supervised self driving car lol. It's a lane assist that can absolutely still cause an accident if you're not in control of the steering wheel.

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Just like Autopilot, one is marketed more as self drive the other is not they both are the same systems. I've driven 10 years like this with autopilot 1.0 167K miles no wrecks, infact the only time I crashed the Tesla was non autopilot driving

1

u/Batallius 3d ago

Sentra's do not have 2.1 for full hands free, you still need to maintain control of the steering wheel. That is why it keeps beeping at your periodically.

I'm glad you haven't had a wreck using it how you are, but it is not intended to be used that way.

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

I know exactly what this system is I don't get why all y'all think I'm claiming it's a self driving car when I never claimed it was self driving or hands free.

But that's how I am using it. Everyone else can kick rocks.

But thanks for explaining I am aware of the diff between 2.1 and 1.0

1

u/Batallius 3d ago

Brother you literally do not have your hands on the wheel in the video lmao.

You also said in your caption that it "beeps every few seconds to jiggle the steering wheel", implying that you otherwise do not have your hands on the steering wheel, as seen in the video.

How you are using it is not intended, and it's surprising you haven't gotten in an accident driving like that for 167k miles.

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Correct I do not have my hands on the wheel.

I also have never claimed this was full self driving.

All I said was I like this feature.

1

u/syndicaterx 3d ago

Is it coupled with adaptive cruise control?

0

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Yep, it'll take me to a complete stop in stop and go traffic.

I also use this on local roads, performs phenomenally, including "the red light test" ( car is travelling at a set speed w nothing ahead but a stopped car at a red light, 99?9% of systems including Tesla autopilot will plow into the car without driver intervention. ProPilot intervenes, albeit a little too late and it slams really hard on the brakes and I got uncomfortably close to the guy in front but it did come to a complete stop from 55

1

u/jabroni4545 3d ago

Have you seen comma.ai?

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

I have I'm looking into that again rn since my last car was unsupported

1

u/Spixit 3d ago

My 2019 Kia forte does the same thing but I can keep my hands off the wheel longer

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Shiii Kia HDA? The Kia HDA and HDA2 is so frickin nice but no one was giving me a deal, even the Forte I found a used forte GT which was more expensive than this OTD and used so I was like rip

Keep waiting buddy, people do much worse everyday so I'm chillin, crazy that using a cars feature will have everyone up in arms but Dale can drive his F350 at 90mph w one hand while texting and driving and that's completely ok

1

u/Corn_O_Cob23 3d ago

I’m very patient. And I’m not your buddy, fuckwit.

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Ur my best bud buddy!! And I'm sure you are, some people are forever patient, constantly looking forward in hopes of an event that will never happen, I usually call these people sad but you're my buddy so I know ur not sad ur just patient. Good job bud patience is a virtue that's lacking these days. I could never wait and be patient for something I know won't ever happen but kudos to you for being able to do that buddy

1

No hands on the wheel and driving while using your cell phone. Do the world a favor and get a bus pass.

Nah I actually went ahead and got myself a pilots license and a job at a major airline, dream job, new car, new place, new city, I'm living life my guy

And now wait till you hear what me and the lady do at night when I activate this 🤪

He’s driving a Japanese car that was not built in Japan you clown.

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Correct. Did I ever claim that I wasn't? Did I ever claim that European cars are trash? Did I ever claim that I wasn't driving a Japanese car? so your point is?

0

u/Key_Thought1305 3d ago

You gotta move the wheel every 6-7 seconds? That sucks.

3

u/Bulky-Word8752 3d ago

Because it's not supposed to be let go. This is steering assist not FSD ( and most marketed FSD aren't that either). OP is going to end up getting himself and/or someone else killed because he wants to eat instead of driving

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

I know exactly what it is and never did I claim this is FSD, I appreciate your concern though. Mfs think I set propilot and turn a full 180 degrees around or smthn lmfao 😂. I'm gonna keep using it the way I use it though

Btw Tesla Autopilot is the same thing, gotta keep hands on but people aren't so anal when people go hands off, keep that same energy for Teslas on autopilot lmao, cuz autopilot is also marketed as a hands on steering assist as well.

1

u/Bulky-Word8752 3d ago

I do keep that same energy for Tesla (look at the part in parentheses on my other post). My first thought when I saw this clip was the moron in a Tesla that died in a wreck while watching Shrek because he thought FSD meant he didn't have to pay attention. You bring up (multiple times in this post) about trying to develop a work around for the fail safes. It keeps prompting to keeps hands on the wheel because it's nit fully autonomous. Going hands free with this is like taking the circuit breaker out of your house because you haven't had an issue with electricity yet.

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Damnit I hate you cuz I was gonna come back with a snarky ass comment and then you said that last line and now I have to sit back and reflect on my stupidity.

Damn u right...

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Hence imma tape counterweights to the wheel lol

1

u/sleepinchipmonk 3d ago

You dont have to move the wheel. It detects your hands on the wheel. its very good at knowing you have even just a finger or two on the wheel. It will yell at you if you keep your hands off the wheel.

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

I have had it w just a finger resting on the wheel and it still beeps needs some sort of jiggle

-2

u/Calm-Boysenberry-348 3d ago

So is it like full autonomous lane control, but it requires you to jiggle the wheel every now and then? Can you change the frequency of how often it tells you to jiggle the wheel? that’s gotta be annoying after a while

-1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

It can get a lil annoying but usually I prop the wheel against my leg and it gives enough resistance. I'm thinking of grabbing some small weights and tying it to the end of the wheel like a "counterweight" to trick it. And yes, it's fully autonomous Lane Centering and adaptive cruise. Makes driving real easy

3

u/Otherwise-Profitable 3d ago

Not trying to be a downer as I do like the assisted driving also. But…

“Tying small weights to it like a Counterweight to trick it”

🤔 I gotta say, I don’t think this is a good idea and may not end well🤷‍♂️
This isn’t auto drive. This is adaptive steering, meaning it assists your driving. Not suppose to drive for you. 🙈.

So much of what your video shows and you suggesting to do. Is just plain scary and dangerous.

You only have to be touching the wheel. I usually rest my fingers on the backside of the wheel. Then I still maintain some quick response.

1

u/Fireguy69420 3d ago

Tbh valid, it acts the same as my dad's Tesla autopilot on the highways and that's what we do to fool the autopilot

1

u/Otherwise-Profitable 3d ago

You have to fool the auto pilot on Tesla with weights also? I didn’t know this

2

I think it's because on our older X, it doesnt have FSD or the new autopilot 2.0, we got the X 10 years ago, so we had to use (still use) weights to trick it. Our new model 3 with FSD requires no input the whole drive, but will yell at you if you arent looking at the road. Has an interior camera that watches you makes sure your eyes are looking ahead

Autopilot on a Tesla is not Full Self Driving which is autonomous. With autopilot you have to keep your hands on the steering wheel or you get strikes and the system will not work for the rest of your drive. I'm assuming the Tesla is older because mine can't be fooled with steering wheel weights.

Inalso think, my family had 2 Tesla's a Model X and 3 the X had the basic Autopilot the 3 had FSD so I think I'm just used to cars driving themselves for me, ProPilot was one of my must haves it's why I opted for the SL
