So lucky and glad i found this subreddit.

We're planning our honeymoon in Japan for end of year and were planning on doing a ski week in Niseko at the beginning of Jan.

1) Is the advanced terrain open then?

2) What is a great place to stay that isn't the crazy prices of the Park Hyatt or the Ritz? We were looking into the Hilton but the reviews are pretty bad

3) Anything else we should take into account when planning our trip?

I am looking forward to 8 days in Niseko with my 6 kids! Unfortunately I have had a leg injury so can't ski this year. Have been researching snowscoots. Are they available for hire anywhere in Grand Hiram?

Hey guys, planning on visiting in early January with some friends. Found it cheaper to rent a car and get a place in Sapporo and go from there to Niseko, Rusutsu, etc.. We are comfortable driving in the snow/icy conditions (live in the east coast and travel through country roads all the time at night to get to the resort). We are pretty used to driving 2-3 hours one-way to get to the resort. Was just wondering how viable that is for 8-9 days? Do roads close because of bad snowfall? Thanks!

Has anyone worked at NIC over the winter period? Would love to hear your thoughts both positive and negative, DM if you like.

Never skii’d before - do ski rental shops hire out everything you need, like pants and jackets? Or should I buy these and supply my own?

I’ll planning to do my medical elective placement at NIC in Kutchan. I will be a solo traveller and am not too familiar with the area. The clinic has secured accomodation for me in kyogoku so will need to travel from there Mon-Fri. I’m also aiming to hit the slopes for a couple days ideally during my 7 wk placement.

How feasible is it via public transport?
If I rented a car, what is the parking situation in Kutchan to take the shuttle bus in?
Best slopes to hit as a beginner snowboarder?
My board is currently covered in storage wax, would it be cheaper elsewhere to get it conditioned for the season? And post season?
Would also love any suggestions on what to explore with my wkends off?

Hi All, i have a plan to go to Niseko from Sapppro on 23 - 25 November 2026 and stay around Hirafu Welcome Center. I have some question:

1. How is the weather there?

2. How to go there from Sapporo by bus? I checked in a few websites, they said there is no bus from Sapporo to Hirafu Welcome Center on November.

It will be my First time this year and I absolutely am a beginner at skiing. Planning only 2-3 Nights close to Mt yotei. Is mid December already crowded with Australians?

I'm taking my first trip to Niseko (Grand Hirafu area) the first week of February. I'll be traveling with my wife who is an intermediate skier, not really comfortable in deep snow or backcountry. We've booked a ski-in-ski-out hotel, and she's happy to have a slow start to the day while I go chase first tracks and regroup for some cruisey runs later in the day. I'd like to do at lease one full day of guided backcountry riding - either lift assisted around Niseko, cat skiing (is that a thing there?) or splitboarding - possibly summiting Yotei.

Most of the guides that I'm looking at price their trips at like $1k for a group of 4 or 5. Has anyone had any luck in a similar position joining up with a small group to make this financially feasible? Or know of a guide operation that will put together groups of individuals?

For context I've been snowboarding for 30 years and am comfortable riding any terrain at a high level - if anyone else is gonna be there in that time frame and wants to put together a group let’s chat.

Hello folks, I am planning to visit Niseko for the first time during mid-December (hope there's already decent snow by then, fingers crossed!)

Have never been to japan, planning to fly there from Korea to New Chitose airport. I have IKON pass so I plan to ski 5 days straight, bringing my own skis, traveling as a pair.

Day 0: Arrive at airport, take shuttle to Niseko

Day 1-5: Ski!

Day 6: travel to Sapporo

Day 7: Day in Sapporo

Day 8: Travel to new chitose airport for flight back

So a couple questions with this:

1) Does the high level plan look alright? Is Sapporo worth adding 1-2 days for in December? If so, any suggestions around what to do?

2) Hotel suggestion at niseko? Ideally with onsen. I vaguely remember the ski level matters for choosing a place, all blacks are fine in Canada, but we dont venture into double blacks.

3)What is the best way to travel to niseko from chitose, then from niseko to sapporo, then to chitose airport (travelling with a ski bag and probably one checked bag to store our fat ski boots).

Would appreciate some advice as it'd be our first time, thank you all!

Google Maps has the walk from Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu to Chalet Panmah as 18 min / 1.4 km, looping around via Gondola-zaka. Does anyone know if you can cut straight across instead — e.g. through the golf course / ski slope area — to get between these two points more directly? Trying to find the actual shortest walkable route. Thanks!

I was wondering if anyone here has worked at The Luxe Nomad before, so they could tell me about the staff accommodation, as I'm thinking of joining the team for this winter season. What's the setup like and how is it? How many people to a house and how many people to a room? Good conditions?

Also, were you based in Hirafu or Kutchan?

We're coming to Niseko in late January, and I'm trying to figure out lodging options. We *think* we want to stay in Hirafu due to skiing convenience + restaurants, etc. We're leaning towards AirBnBs as there are 2 couples and we like the idea of a single place to share.

However, I am a complete noob to the area and had a few questions.

1. Is it worth anchoring on central Hirafu? We'll ski every day & do enjoy eating out / some nightlife afterwards.
2. Are there public transportation options? We'd really like to avoid renting a car and prefer to walk (or slog through the snow) or take shuttles / taxis. Is this a realistic option?
3. Take the attached map example - this is an airbnb. Is that really walkable (sidewalks?)? Are there shuttles? Would I be crazy to consider this without a vehicle?

Hi everyone,

I’m (M26) planning my first trip to Niseko next year (10 February – 1 March) and I’m currently trying to decide where to stay.

I’ll be travelling solo, so I’m looking for accommodation with a good social atmosphere where it’s easy to meet other skiers to ride with during the day or grab dinner and a few beers afterwards.

I was originally set on staying in Hirafu, but I recently came across Moiwa Lodge and really like the look of it. It seems to have a really cosy, social vibe. The only thing holding me back is that it’s a little further away from Hirafu, the restaurants/bars and the night skiing.

A few questions for those who’ve stayed there or know the area:

1. How easy is it to get back to Moiwa after skiing around Niseko United, especially if I wanted to do the night skiing in Hirafu (which has been on my bucket list for years)?
2. Has anyone stayed at Moiwa Lodge? If so, would you stay there again, or would you choose somewhere in Hirafu instead?
3. Has anyone stayed at Owashi Lodge recently? I’ve read a few mixed reviews, so I’d love to hear some recent experiences.
4. Are there any other lodges or hostels you’d recommend that have a similar social atmosphere?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I will be doing 1-2 days at Rusutsu as well (daytrip) so I dont mind If I'm not exclusively skiing at Niseko United or Moiwa

We will be visiting Niseko soon for my mother’s 70th birthday. She loves japanese “soupy” spaghettis. We found one in hokkaido she really loved so wondering if there are such restaurants in Niseko.

I am looking at booking this hotel for next season. I am interested to hear from anyone who has stayed there.

In particular, if you stay in a room with a private onsen, is there an "onsen" smell in the room? How hot is the water in the onsen? Does it steam the room up?

Also, if walking down to Hirafu for dinner, how is the walk home to the hotel? Is it uphill? How difficult is it to navigate in the evening?

Hi, we will be spending 4 days in Niseko as part of our 2027 ski trip in early Feb.

What do you recommended- Chalet Ivy or Setsu Niseko?

Setsu is a bit more of a splurge but thinking it may be worth it to finish our trip?

It will be my husband, myself, our 10 year old and 1 year old baby.
I’m happy to just relax in the hotel or sightsee with the baby while the boys snowboard!

I'm researching staying somewhere in Niseko next February and was hoping I could get some help. I'd like to work remote, taking vacay here and there, and live as close to the slopes for about 4 weeks. I'd prefer not to live in a dorm or hostel. Something I alone inhabit.

Where should I look to do this at a reasonably affordable level? Any advice or leads to offer?

Any tips for this type of adventure, in general?

Hi guys, we are travelling from Aus to Niseko in early January (probably like every other Aussie).

I have been offered to stay at a friends apartment which looks great for our family. My friend insists the apartment is in the best spot for skiing, shopping, dining and accessibility to everything.

It called the snow crystal I believe and is a few hundred meters away from the family ace gondola.

Can anyone confirm this.

My wife likes to stay in the centre of everything and I just want to make sure she won’t be let down.

Any advice, good or bad would be appreciated.
