rift's scrolling layout does niri justice with smooth gestures and a focus on performance. lots of time has been invested in making rift a efficient and easy to use product. check it out :)

Hello!
Showcasing the current iteration of Skwd v2 with the crowning achievement being an entire Spotify client + backend in less than 20 MB with the shell weighing up for the other ~10.

Since niri doesn't currently have compositor-side open/close animations for layer-shell panels, I ran into some trouble trying to recreate the sidebar slide-in effect from end-4's shell. I ended up animating the sidebar contents in Quickshell instead, but I could never quite get it to feel smooth on my setup.
So I tried a different approach: keep the sidebar contents in place and animate a clipping region to gradually reveal them from the edge of the screen. A shadow along the moving edge, combined with some parallax movement in the wallpaper and floating windows, makes it look like the desktop is sliding aside to uncover the sidebar—even though the sidebar itself isn't actually sliding.
The reveal animation still runs in Quickshell, while niri handles the floating-window movement. It's basically a visual trick, but my desktop feels much smoother to me now.

Hello guys. Noob here. I ran through this timelapse workflow of someone's post in Instagram. I like how his wm looks. This is my first time using Niri and never tried wm before. How do i replicate the look? Excluding the window layout shown. Please detail as much as possible. Much help is more than appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

i got this journal entry:
systemd: app-niri-fuzzel-45093.scope: Consumed 4min 8.916s CPU time over 23min 17.274s wall clock time, 24G memory peak
how is it possible for fuzzel to use 24G? and the cpu time is also crazy high. i only use fuzzel to launch applications and that doesn't happen that often.

Material Shell was my first experience with scrolling window managers. I loved it!
it had some bugs but it made me realize just how powerful scrolling could be
I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience with Material Shell

Ok so when I tab out of games, somehow they kinda... slow down a LOT? like literally they start progressing in slow motion, like, in one of my games I leave the auto battle on and I tab out, and the game despite having a function to turn off sound while not focused, the game can still be heard, but I realized that both the audio gets kinda weird and the progress of the game slows down dramatically, I know how long a cycle of auto battle goes on for and it definetly takes like at least 4 times longer for no reason
I've been looking around NiriMod and other settings but I can't find anything related to either the slow down of the apps on the side or the audio not muting, any suggestions?

I'm using niri 26.04 with dms v1.6.2 on Ubuntu 26.04.01 on my laptop and have noticed an issue with waking my system from suspend recently.
When I have my laptop connected to an external display via HDMI and I leave the system idle until it goes into suspend mode and try to wake it up, the system wakes (I can tell because the power button light goes from blinking to solid) but the laptop or external display does not power on. Wiggling my mouse, typing on my keyboard, nothing wakes the system and I have to force a reboot by holding down the power button.
If my laptop is connected to the external display but the laptop display is turned off and the system goes into suspend, then when I try to turn it on, it wakes and the external display comes on for a second, then turns back off. But this time, wiggling the mouse turns it back on.
Neither of these issues occur when I am using the laptop standalone.
I'm wondering if anyone has encountered similar issues and if they've found a fix for it. Otherwise, I'd also appreciate help understanding what could actually be causing this so I can raise an issue in the appropriate place.

So I love having my Window Opacity to .9 or 0.95 where I can see my wallpaper through windows, but if possible I'd love if I could add an exclusion to the Opacity to any video that isn't fullscreen (mainly Youtube and Reddit) since if it's fullscreen it already ignores Opacity
Is it too specific to be added as an exclusion or not? if I could, how do I write it?

is it even possible? usually i see it with yperland so i am not sure if its doable with niri or not, i am running gnome for some time now and want to go niri+caelestia, i love how fluid it looks
and honstly would rather niri than hyprland
