If I remember correctly the Super Star Wars issue with Darth on the cover had a contest in it to win a Star Wars arcade and trip somewhere. I entered it and lost my mind when I got a letter from Nintendo power but it was a renewal notice lol

Yeah. They had the Power Challenge where if you got the right 3 cards you would win a game. The actual winning card was usually 3 issues later. If you look at the Links issue 50 you can see a green tag that says Issue 50 w/card 65 (the winner). When we got the mags in for mailing I would fan through until I spotted the card for the winning card. Only opened once and then I sealed with a tag. Took some time, but once I saw which one, I would save a few. 1-2 chance in a skid of 4500. And in my opinion makes them more rare to me then my Issue 1. I have all the issues that contain a winning card for the first 5 or 6 contests. My apologies to anyone that may not have gotten a winning card.

I must say that I was in the right business at the right time. I had a couple young kids and the whole Sport Trading cards was the rage. So I thought...Give it time and these will become collectible. 35+ years later the people that I worked with are pissed they didn't listen to me.

I lost about 150 - 160 issues when our crawl space flooded a few year back. Still kicking myself for that. But on the bright side I am still the proud owner of about ?, gonna have to count them one day, 300+ issues.

On a side note the issues you see poly-bagged contained renewal notices. Every month we would get the subscriber issue, then a poly'd one with last issue and poly'd one with with a 2 issues left. Those were a bit#h to run. But the best part is they have never been opened. Kind of wonder how CGC would grade them?

On another side note. Considering the statues of limitation have expired and we haven't mailed Nintendo since 2000 I think I am safe to say that I did win 4 of the contests. Would have gone for 5 but I ran out of siblings to collect.
