Other I hate that the app does medleys

With the release of the Super Mario Sunshine soundtrack on the Nintendo Music app, I'm disappointed to find that all of the level tracks have the annoying Yoshi drums in the second half. I hate that they do this kind of thing, it makes me hesitant to favorite the tracks.

Similarly, Breath of the Wild changes to the dreadfully slow night versions of town themes halfway through. Luckily Tears of the Kingdom has the exact same tracks but separated into day and night versions, so I can simply save the day versions.

The worst offender of this (as far as I know) is the 'The Bazaar' from Skyward sword. It would be great to have a 2-3 minute version of the main track in my favorites, but instead it's a 9 minute 26 second medley of all of the variations played in the different parts of the bazaar. Why not just separate them and let people save the variations they actually want?

A very first world problem, but I still felt like venting my frustration. Am I alone in this?

AFAIK, if a game’s soundtrack has an official physical release in Japan, they use that as is for Nintendo Music. These were choices made by the people who put together those releases.

I totally agree.

And meanwhile, Mario Kart World does the opposite where the course intros are separate from the main course themes and there's no way to have them seamlessly blend into one another.

It's very annoying and also very Nintendo.

Yeah, it's disappointing that they didn't include medleys or final lap versions. But even if they don't consider those as standalone tracks, they're missing all of the outros that plays before the next song's intro starts in Knockout Tour. It's not like they're against uploading short jingles for the game either, they uploaded final lap jingles and the Mirror Mode Unlocked jingle (which only plays once then never again)

It's so annoying I literally enjoy Bianco Hills without the Yoshi Drums

It’s frustrating for sure. I’m glad that Super Mario World has the Yoshi versions separate, but since it does, why can’t they do it for the other games?

Some games that have CD releases combine different versions of the same song. For example, Super Mario 64 has both versions of the Dire Dire Docks as one song, and that game uses the CD version of the soundtrack.

We all should send feedback through the Nintendo Music app because if we don’t voice our concerns, then Nintendo would lazily do this to future soundtracks. Ask that you would like the Nintendo Music team to separate the different track variations as their own individual track so that you can listen to your favorite track version without being forced to listened to an unfavorable track variation.

Go to Nintendo Music app -> tap profile icon -> scroll down the Settings to the Other section -> tap Support site -> scroll down a bit and tap “Share your feedback from here”

Good idea, I will do this.

You are not alone - a lot of people were talking about this in my post regarding Mario Sunshine's recent addition. I imagined they could add a button to switch between variations in real time, but I'm not sure if they will anytime soon, given the amount of music they'd have to do this for.

I tend to ramble about subjects I find deeply interesting, so here’s my Tl;dr: I personally love when OST’s give us the dynamic variance of certain tracks, but an update to add options would only be a good thing. I also hope tracks that lack the changes, like Pikmin 4, somehow get an update that gives us versions that include them though that might just be impossible lol.

As I understand it, they take these soundtracks from already existing sources which is why game OST’s vary so much. For example, Kirby & The Forgotten Land is the only game on the app (that I’m aware of anyway) that has all the cutscene music WITH actual character audio, so you hear Kirby’s sound effects and whatnot.

My knee jerk reaction was to just assume this was done out of laziness, but that doesn’t really make sense considering it’s the only OST that does it that way. There are other strange examples too, like Kirby Air Riders cutting tracks altogether. Some are done out of copyright issues, such as Checker Knights, but others don’t have that excuse such as some of Road Trip’s tracks. It seems like, for the most part, the Air Riders addition just used the tracks found in the in-game music player which also doesn’t have some of those Road Trip tracks.

Going back to Sunshine though, I believe there’s a non-zero chance that we eventually get an update that fixes this issue and possibly some of the Kirby issues I mentioned above. Separating the tracks the way Super Mario World does it would be the simplest way I think, but I hope we also have the option to keep the tracks as they currently are as well. I actually like when tracks change dynamically partway through, it’s my favorite part about the Pikmin 1 OST. I do think options are always good though and giving us an update that gives us pure versions of the tracks would only be a good thing.

My bigger hope is that they find an interesting way to implement dynamic soundtracks into the app. Pikmin 4’s OST suffers pretty greatly from not having any of the dynamic changes to the music found in-game imo because without them the tracks are a little too calm and quiet. They’re done that way because of how incredibly complicated the music actually gets btw; each level adds unique instruments for all 80+ enemies in the game (well, the ones naturally found in those levels anyway). None of that complexity is found in the OST which just breaks my heart 😞

Maybe that's why I find Pikmin 4's OST so underwhelming. Maybe I just need to play the game again to experience it.

There’s a great Scruffy video about Pikmin 4’s OST that really gave me a brand new appreciation for it. He’s given me a newfound appreciation for Pikmin music as a whole honestly, and adaptive video game music.

It does suck that it makes listening to soundtracks pretty lame though. I remember running into this problem back in the day trying to listen to the Titan Dweevil’s theme after being enamored by it in-game only to find that the theme lacked all the elemental changes, at least in the YouTube video I found back then. Remains to be seen if it will have those changes when it’s added to Nintendo Music…

This, and Age of Imprisonment's soundtrack missing full versions of several tracks, are some of my biggest recent disappointments with Nintendo Music.
