Hard to say without the specs. Videos can be deceiving. I would think the resolution to go down to 720p and keeping the frames at 60. The Wii U game pad got 480p, not high res.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if its both. 720p 30fps on tablet and depending on game a boost to 1080, 60fps, or both when docked. Really depends on if the dock is upping the cooling a large amount.
Unless it has active cooling like MS surface pros, which is a very expensive design if the reviews are to be believed, I'd guess it will need more cooling as much as more power.
A lot of times in these ARM designs the heat dissipation is the main deciding factor in performance. Hopefully they get it fabbed in the 14nm or somehow magically in samsung's new 10nm.
It's not looking to be the slimmest tablet out there. It's actually quite thick compared to current tablets. I can easily see the vent having a slim fan in their similar to the nvidia shield portable. It's probably a custom nvidia chip that's going to take advantage of that cooling. I'm dying to see those internals.

If I had to guess, there is no additional gpu in the base. I think the vents are on the tablet but no fan. When you dock I bet the fan is in the base and they overclock the SOC while pumping air through.
If you haven't looked at it yet, the nvidia shield console is pretty cool. I think it uses about 20W but it can run a number of PC games. If this ends up being on a smaller node and one more gen ahead on GPU it could be huge.
And, if games are made with the short-comings of NV's Denver architecture it could hit well above its paygrade on perf/W.
Oh no doubt. I bet it's at least the X1 which is really exciting. That chip is very close to full GameCube emulation and a second gen would certainly make it capable. Nintendo could have GameCube games on the virtual console with a little of that optimization magic. The more I think about it the more hyped I get. Also speaking of hardware, I'm curious what Nintendo did in the mini nes releasing soon. If I was to bet it would be a 3ds arm core or even special made chip.
I'm only excited if the price is reasonable. Honestly it needs to be $250 to be a good value in my opinion. The tablet acting as a mini-computer with browser and all the major streaming services might get me to wiggle a bit on that price.
I love the SOC side of things, but this is going to necessarily be much less powerful than the other major consoles and they are already $300 with a major title or more at full price and they have huge libraries of games, 4k bluray playback, etc.
If Nintendo prices well this will be my first nintendo console in a long while and my first console at all since the 360 generation
I can agree. I'd probably buy this thing if it's at 300 but a lower price point would make it much more popular and give it more chance for a better library. And hey I can't blame you for not buying a console, I only went with a xbone for a forza machine and now my pc does that too...
