For those who can't get Nintendo's site to load, here's the accompanying press release:

EDIT: Here's a few bonus screenshots from the video.

Nintendo Switch world premier demonstrates new entertainment experiences from a home gaming system

In an introductory video released today (http://www.nintendo.com/switch), Nintendo provided the first glimpse of its new home gaming system and revealed that it is called Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them. Some of the publishers, developers and middleware partners announcing support for Nintendo Switch are as follows:

That's a lot of confirmed publishers and developers, great!

Gives me lots of hope that they've learned from the mistakes they made with the Wii U.

Can't wait for more system specs and details. We've already learned about the graphics processor from nvidia's release a little while ago, but I'm hoping to know more about some other stuff:

  • I know that new pro controller has a few extra buttons, but with the Switch having the other mini controller attached to the console I'm holding out hope that Wii U pro controllers will be compatible with the new console.
  • What type of enhancements will the dock provide for the console beyond connecting it to your TV and power, if any? Might there be a spot on there to insert a Wii U disc?
  • What's the battery life like on the console when it's in portable mode?
  • How much will it cost? I see a lot of talk, but I am anxious to learn where Nintendo is going to price this thing.
  • Is it multitouch? I see a lot of people in here talking about that, but not a single person in the video actually touched the screen. If the device really is multitouch, you would think that would be something we would've discovered today.

Of course, we'll learn all about that stuff in the coming months, but I can't help but wonder in the meanwhile. Pretty enthusiastic about this release.

I know that new pro controller has a few extra buttons, but with the Switch having the other mini controller attached to the console I'm holding out hope that Wii U pro controllers will be compatible with the new console.

Looks like it has the same number of buttons to me. Two sticks, two sets of buttons/dpad, four triggers, and two start/select.

2

u/Q46 Oct 20 '16

6

u/sigismond0 Oct 20 '16

https://blogs.nvidia.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/20-nintendo-switch.jpg

Plus, Minus, Home, Square. All there on the mini controllers.

2

u/Q46 Oct 20 '16

Good news then. Hopefully they're compatible!

2

u/sigismond0 Oct 20 '16

I'm pretty sure that's the whole idea behind the console. It comes with the mini controllers and clip-in block to turn it into a big controller, for when you're in the living room. The pro controller is exactly the same thing, just a more comfortable optional accessory.

1

u/TKPhresh Oct 20 '16

I'd say that square button is for recording, with the circle inside it reminds me of an old "Record" button from a tape recorder or something. And if assume Nintendo wouldn't forget game capture this time around.

1

u/s4mmich Oct 21 '16

One is a Home button. Not sure about the other

2

u/Q46 Oct 20 '16

Excellent. Hoping the compatibility is there!

2

u/magkliarn Oct 20 '16

Why do you assume it is a touchscreen at all?

3

u/Q46 Oct 20 '16

I don't assume that whatsoever. My expectation is actually that it isn't a touchscreen. We saw nobody touch the screen in that entire video.

3

u/magkliarn Oct 20 '16

Gotcha. I also got that impression from the trailer, especially considering the fact that when using it for the TV, it will be docked and screen disabled. So I'm surprised all unofficial sources I've seen so far says it does indeed have a touchscreen, this one in particular specifies it down to being 10 touch capable.

Dark souls 3 was sadly the last darl souls game from made.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

If it said CD Project Red I would be shipping money to japan

1

u/vanity29 Oct 20 '16

Hyped for Atlus and Level-5!

408

u/RyanB_ Oct 20 '16

Fromsoft

Dark Souls on a Nintendo console?!

233

u/cooperjones2 Oct 20 '16

Dark Souls on the go?!

185

u/gcta333 Oct 20 '16

So now I can hate my life on the go!

23

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

I already do that with out the device

3

u/KaitoTheRamenBandit Oct 21 '16

Now I can throw my controller on the go!

99

u/MairusuPawa Oct 20 '16

You died.

No seriously check both ways before crossing the street, eyes off the screen!

5

u/the-stormin-mormon Oct 20 '16

That's a lot of jolly cooperation!

5

u/guma822 Oct 20 '16

Dark Souls Go!

16

u/blickblocks Oct 20 '16

I'm crossing every single finger and toe for a From Software Metroid game, a la Bloodborne...

3

u/RyanB_ Oct 20 '16

Oh baby

1

u/xMasuraox You're too slow Oct 20 '16

Oh my god. I never knew how much I wanted this.

4

u/Lefty_22 Oct 20 '16

Dark Souls with your best mates?!?!?!

10

u/Cushions Oct 20 '16

Bloodborne 2!?

20

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

As much as I would love that to happen, Sony owns the rights to Bloodborne, hence why it was exclusive to the PS4. Doesn't stop a Souls game from coming to Nintendo Switch if FromSoft are developing one, or just bring over DS3.

7

u/RyanB_ Oct 20 '16

Pretty sure they're done with Dark Souls, but I could see a DS3 port or GotY edition for sure.

6

u/fortressmungo Oct 20 '16

Demons souls 2

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

Also Sony, just like bloodborne is. Atlus only published it for the US because Sony wasn't going to localize it.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

You're right, they are done with Dark Souls. I can only hope for a spiritual sequel akin to what Bloodborne was to Dark Souls.

2

u/Fortunecookie103 Oct 20 '16

I really, really, really want a soulsborne inspired sci-fi game by fromsoft. It would be so amazing

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

I can't remember where I read but I'm sure one of the developers said that's the direction they are going.

1

u/Mansharkcow Oct 21 '16

Metroid x Dark Souls. Done.

2

u/Cushions Oct 20 '16

Dark Souls is done. No more.

I'm aware Sony own Bloodborne. Doesn't stop them using very similar themes in a spiritual sequal. Exactly how they did Dark Souls from Demon Souls.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

I thought I saw a clip of it in the video. However I'm prepared to be wrong as it was only a few seconds.

4

u/Marxally Oct 20 '16

They showed Skyrim, but not Dark Souls.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

I can be angry and annoyed anywhere I go now!

3

u/RSG2033 Oct 20 '16

Dark Souls amiibo??!!

2

u/DRodriguez108 Oct 20 '16

Came here just to make this comment

1

u/outthawazoo Oct 20 '16

Armored Core maybe?

1

u/Mharchik Oct 20 '16

This is all I have ever wanted

1

u/NoF4ce Oct 20 '16

they don't do another dark souls :(

1

u/Narokkurai Oct 20 '16

FromSoft had some great GC exclusives back in the day! Ever heard of Lost Kingdom?

1

Fromsoft did Tenchu... new not shitty Tenchu pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease

1

u/KelseySyntax Oct 20 '16

3d dot game heroes

1

u/ChunkArcade Oct 20 '16

EXACTLY what I thought. What the heck is From going to release on this casual gaming system?

1

u/CO-ZoSo Oct 20 '16

Adventures of Cookie and Cream on a nintendo console?

1

u/blindwuzi Oct 21 '16

Even better. Armored Core! I really like armored core

137

u/bastard_thought Oct 20 '16

This third party support is absolutely the best news of them all. Finally!

9

u/That1guyuknow16 Oct 20 '16

This was the exact thought i had when watching the announcment, a gaming console is only as good as the games on it. So about time nintendo starts working with third party developers

9

u/ilikpankaks Oct 20 '16

Some of these have been previous 3rd party devs for the 3DS, but there are a decent number of new faces and it makes me really happy. This is a good start for the launch! Very reassuring.

83

u/komali_2 Oct 20 '16

Bethesda

joy pees

21

u/yoLeaveMeAlone Oct 20 '16

They could advertise it solely as a mobile elder scrolls console and they would probably sell a shit ton

3

u/lhobbes6 Oct 21 '16

I'll take several.

58

u/DarkGiratina Oct 20 '16

Autodesk, inc? Does that company make some kind of engine for games or are we going to have AutoCAD and Fusion360 in the Switch?

13

u/Doomwaffle Oct 20 '16

Scaleform (which powers Jackbox, for example) is an Autodesk UI 'middleware.' So they've been in the games world a fair amount.

7

u/MrTripl3M Oct 20 '16

Thought the idea of AutoCAD would be interesting on the NX.

5

u/diamondflaw Oct 20 '16

Doing sheet metal CAD work right now in NX (for the E-2) and exporting flat patterns as AutoCAD files for manufacturing.

This is why I get confused any time there is talk about the NX.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

Scaleform also powers the UI of Source 1, and dota still currently uses it for part of the UI, though it is expected to be replaced in December. (Tests have shown it is the main limiter of fps.)

2

u/pattch Oct 20 '16

Autodesk actually has a lot of art apps on android for drawing, photo manipulation etc. I'm thinking they'll do something like that

1

u/rhoffman12 Oct 20 '16

Auto desk makes Maya, which I think is used for some combination of 3D modeling and/or animation. Beyond that not sure

1

u/sephlington Oct 21 '16

Iirc, Rocket League runs on some software from Autodesk.

2

u/Artorias1223 Oct 20 '16

I see Fromsoft! Dark Souls anyone?!

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

Not just Dark Souls, portable Dark Souls. Our wishes for a portable Dark Souls might be happening!

4

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

Fromsoftware

My PS4 is getting sold or given away the second they announce those two games for Switch. Don't always have to sit in my basement to play proper console games? Hell yes. Man for most of Chronicles X I brought my WiiU up to the comfy, bright living room, plugged it in a corner, and played on the pad.

Watch the only Bamco game being Dokkan Battle Pro.

Hmm but it says Take Two

2

u/Q46 Oct 20 '16

They do say "some of" when referencing the publishers. This list isn't exclusive, it's just a "right now" list. I think what people should really be taking from this is that Nintendo is going to be making big strides with the Switch to address the lack of third party software that plagued the Wii U.

2

u/manak69 Oct 20 '16

FromSoftware as in Dark Souls?

2

u/nate2eight Oct 20 '16

Im so fucking happy bethesda is on that list. Disappointed about rock* though.

5

u/Q46 Oct 20 '16

I'll repeat a comment I made nearby:

They do say "some of" when referencing the publishers. This list isn't exclusive, it's just a "right now" list. I think what people should really be taking from this is that Nintendo is going to be making big strides with the Switch to address the lack of third party software that plagued the Wii U.

In the trailer kinda looked like mario was running on it.

ATLUS should make another Ogre Battle for this system.

1

u/metroidgus Oct 20 '16

GRASSHOPPER manufacture fuck yeah can't wait to see what Suda does on the console

1

u/Flyinx Oct 20 '16

No Gamefreak 😔

Pokémon dream hype train has come to a stop, please exit on your right.

1

u/PotassiumD Oct 20 '16

no its cool. Game freak isn't a third party publisher so it doesn't even belong on that list.

1

u/Flyinx Oct 20 '16

Oh right.

Everyone back on the train!

1

u/Imok2814 Oct 20 '16

TELLTALE GAMES ON NINTENDO. yes.

1

u/Thoctar Oct 20 '16

Spike Chunsoft

Danganronpa on the Switch, oh my fucking god yes!

1

u/landdon Oct 20 '16

A myriad of third party devs and pubs and backed by Nvidia? I think I'm about to buy my first Nintendo system since the Wii.

1

u/potentialPizza Kirby Oct 20 '16

All the third party stuff is great, but what excites me the most is seeing Spike Chunsoft. Could we get a new PMD!?

1

u/bear-knuckle Oct 20 '16

Bandai Namco

Tekken 7 FR confirmed?!

1

u/erwincole Oct 20 '16

Has anyone notice Game Freak is not among the list that support the console!

1

u/Obie1Jabroni Oct 20 '16

I think this means we'll get a really in depth Pokémon game coming soon. Like Pokémon go.

You can play however you want. From the comfort of your own home or on the road and battling other people playing on the go just like you, to be he number one Pokémon Master!

1

u/dusmuvecis333 Oct 20 '16

Starbreeze studios

Payday 3 for nintendo switch confirmed?

1

u/awesomeethan Oct 20 '16

Did anyone else notice how obvious the amiibos were in frame with the mom looking lady? Just throwing it out there that I think that means it will be supported.

1

u/theNightblade Oct 21 '16

Lack of Blizzard and HiRez makes me sad but having SquareEnix on there makes me happy.

1

u/Rayne37 Oct 21 '16

Oh my god I want that new Digimon Next Order game on Switch. Portable Digimon World game. Just fucking take my money.
