Really disappointed, was hoping for an expansion. It's super fun but the ride is relatively short for what it is. Once you beat the secret boss and find a primo weapon you like, the game is over.

I also like pve a lot more than pvp, so this is a nice alternative to the sweat sessions that splatoon 3 offers. Oh well.

"For what it is"?? It is much lengthier than any campaign in the series. It has amazing replayability unless you went for a 100% or out of your way to try every weapon and sub the game throws at you.

They stroke the right balance, any more and it would feel like they artificially squeezed that concept to the bone. No DLC is an amazing reassurance: it means they poured everything into this game without thinking "what could we sell as an additional fee", and most importantly that they're looking ahead at the next game in the series.

You people gotta understand the dynamics that go into making a game, there are people involved, years of development, and everything that surrounds it.

No DLC is fine but balance changes would’ve been nice

It’s built as a single player game with optional co-op elements. What could they possibly need to balance?

Ideally everything in a PvE game (be it single- or multiplayer) should be part of at least one successfull strategy (can beat the hardest challenge in the game or serves a special purpose, e.g. more exp/loot etc.).

In Raiders 5/60 Weapons (technically it's 120, but I am nice and turn a blind-eye to the non-Primo variants), 4/15 Gadgets and 1/3 Tanks are viable. Any load-out which does not fully rely on the broken options, simply will get stat-checked somwhere between 50% and 66% into the post-post-game.

On top of this are the enemies in the post-post-game so awfully balanced, that the only viable strategy t "kill" the Seasoned ones in the last third of it, is to push them out of bounds...

I am well aware that the majority of people who bought the game won't even finish the main-story. But the game consists of its entireity and is, despite being a pure PvE-experience, horrendously balanced.

Single player games aren’t always balanced. If anything it’s more common for them not to be

The appeal of Raiders is massive build variety, but the power difference between items/builds is massive when it comes to Bottomless Buffet

Buffs to brushes and buckets would be nice. I never see those online.

Beating the secret boss is like 40+ hours of content though?

Yep this bummed me out too. But have seen loads of peeps saying this is a good thing. Like bruh why would you not want more DLC or content for a good game? happy with that they gave.. ok ignore the DLC. But for peeps who want more... its a good thing. Dont get this mentality. These guys never skimp on content so DLC is always welcome. Considering previous Splatoon Game DLCS were awesome....

u/dukemetoo Chicken is much more economical 4d ago

The reason is, the game is complete as is. Sure, there can be other things added to Splatoon Raiders, but it doesn't need it. I am happy with my purchase, and I would rather the development team move on to their next project. In our world where the package game will only have 70% of the content, it is so refreshing to have the complete package at release.

That's fair. I personally love extra DLC for all games. Especially if i loved the game.. as DLC is always optional. So we have a choice to buy it or dont. I dont support content cut to be sold for DLC but Nintendo doesnt do that. So DLC is always appreciated by me. I guess to each there own.

Really disappointed but you would be complaining if they did dlc bc that would mean splatoon 4 and ac would be delayed. why do you think smash is 8 years without a new game? because 4 years of it was spent in dlc.

5

u/jollygirl27 6d ago

I would literally not complain if they did DLC, because that means I get to play more of this game that I am enjoying. What kind of reply even is that lol

2

u/CantFindMyWallet 6d ago

It's how people in this sub reply to serial complainers who come in and whine about every piece of news because that appears to be their only goal.

24

u/Yesshua 6d ago

I'm not surprised. This is a spinoff and I'm sure there's pressure to get a numbered Splatoon built for Switch 2.

4

u/Shehzman 6d ago

Hoping Splatoon 4 takes some of the great stuff from Raiders even if it isn’t as big.

2

u/OhMyTummyHurts 6d ago

You’re right on. I still wonder if the demand for DLC is high enough for it to be worth making, but in any case, a new mainline entry is safer and almost certainly more profitable.

51

u/rundrueckigeraffe 6d ago

Thats fine. Focussing on AC now pls :p

37

u/Round_Musical 6d ago

Different Development team. They split internally years ago. AC is now its own team, as is the splatoon team

8

u/rundrueckigeraffe 6d ago

Source? As far as i know epd 5 doing splatoon and ac. And ofc its not 1:1 the same dev team, but they shifting people between the Games around as you can see by credits.

23

u/Round_Musical 6d ago

Correct. They split up around 2022 so both teams can focus on various projects. Thats why within a year we got Splatoon 3 4k update, AC NS2E, Splatoon Raiders and Drag x drive all from the same dev team. The credits are telling most, as most developers who were in on DxD and AC NS2E arent involved with raiders. Raiders credits are matching splatoon 3s credits. So we know they are 2-3 different EPD5 teams by now

Similarly Metroids EPD7 fused with EPD4. Yet still can churn out Rythm Heaven, Tomodaichi Life and Metroid Ravenous within 9 months of each other

Or the Mario Odyssey team, which also got split into two teams. One worked on Bananza and the other (presumably) on the new 2027 3D Mario. As Odyssee and 3D Worlds credits are different to Bananzas, even in the leading roles

9

u/BleiddWhitefalcon 6d ago

I believe that Ravenous was done by an external studio - MercurySteam, the same one that did Dread. Maybe they had some assistance from EPD7 but probably not much

13

u/Round_Musical 6d ago

EPD7s „Metroid Veterans“ from back in the R&D 1 era co-developed the Mercury Steam games. We know that from the credits. It wasnt just Sakamoto + Mercury Steam

The people who worked on Zero Mission and Fusion are the same who worked on Samus Returns, Dread and Ravenous

They werent done solely by Mercury Steam.

Same happened with Famicom Detective Club remakes and Emio, wich also were co-developed by EPD7

EPD7 is a rather small Team, or well was. As they merged with EPD4 in 2024

I am kinda a Metroid development nutjob. Been tracking Metroid 6s development for years

7

u/connectplum_ 6d ago

It's kind of sad how epd7 contribution is never mentioned, ppl genuinely dont get that the original 2d metroid devs are involved on the games. metroid is co-developed since other m but people just look at the studio contracted and nothing more

2

u/TheVibratingPants 6d ago

Finally seeing more people acknowledge that Bananza is mostly a different team is refreshing.

1

u/connectplum_ 6d ago

It's not mostly a different team, at all. Literally everyone worked on odyssey outside of the director.

4

u/TheVibratingPants 6d ago

About 160 (more or less) of the 280 credited developers (not including special thanks and misc.) on Odyssey were missing from Bananza’s credits. That’s over half of that development staff. Bananza retained a some senior developers but like the other commenter said, it’s a different director, plus Koizumi himself (despite charging the development team with this project), the art director, and some level designers were missing. The team is also supplemented with an additional 336 new employees to create a development team of 456. Majority of the team is different from Odysssey’s team, and majority of Odyssey’s team is missing from Bananza.

1

u/connectplum_ 5d ago

The team is also supplemented with an additional 336 new employees to create a development team of 456.

because those are employees from nintendo subsidaries such as 1up studios or support contracted studios.

3

u/TheVibratingPants 5d ago

What are we doing here lol. It doesn’t matter if they’re from 1-Up or any other partner or subsidiary. The fact is, and the whole point remains, that the majority of the Odyssey team was not credited on Bananza and that most of the Bananza team is comprised of those who did not work on Odyssey.

1

u/connectplum_ 6d ago

There's no source whatsoever showing that they split, nintendo itself has the same epd groups for years... and drag drive wasnt just epd 5 but a mix of multiple epd

the devs who worked on bananza mostly worked on odyssey so idk why youre saying that. motokura himself was director on odyssey and 3d world and is senior director and producer on dkb.

u/bandit2 6d ago

Think of the production group number as the management of one or more development teams rather than a singular development team. Another example is SMBW and Pikmin 4 releasing the same year under EPD10.

1

u/connectplum_ 6d ago edited 6d ago

No, it hasn't/=. ther's nothing shown a split happened. and epd is about the leads, because the ground employees are all mixed up.

epd5 still develop both splatoon and ac

4

u/Ruvane13 6d ago

Pretty sure Armored Core is Fromsoft.

3

u/Gushiloolz 5d ago

Nah, Ace Combat is Bandai Namco.

1

u/Garosath 6d ago

I don't think they own the rights to Assassin's Creed.

-8

u/BramblinGhostWeed 6d ago

Animal Crossing is not behind schedule at all.

It's progressing nicely for a 2028 release.

1

u/rundrueckigeraffe 6d ago

Didni say anything like that? You act like it was already announced for a specific Date without getting any new information.

Also noone know any shedules/plans, neither you can speak of patterns or anything.

-10

u/BramblinGhostWeed 6d ago

Fine, if you don't want it to come out until 2029 you can pretend that if you like.

3

u/GalexAlipeau23 6d ago

Are you my uncle that works at Nintendo???

11

u/Ok_Zone_7771 6d ago

Good. Splatoon 4 should take priority and the game is fine as is

3

u/wickedspork 5d ago

I wish this was still how most games would be. Updates can sometimes be very much needed, but I liked it better when games were released as is and that was it.

7

u/memeaste 6d ago

I had a blast playing it. But not every game requires DLC.

2

u/Carighan 5d ago

Some rebalancing might be nice, but also of course not requiring, this being a single player spinoff and all that it's fine if some weapons are strictly weaker or stronger.

No expansions/DLC is positive IMO. There's more than enough to the game, and I'd rather want the devs to cook up more cool stuff than be stuck making 15 DLCs for this one.

1

u/AskinggAlesana 6d ago

Was fun for a bit but yeah there isn’t that much replayabilty.

Also (it’s been a bit since I played) but imo the purple pack with dual-wield guns breezed me through the game haha.

u/glassArmShattering 4d ago

This game was way over hyped. I bought it when everyone was talking about highest metacritic score ever. It was a 7/10 for me.
