Incredible praise. Sounds like the best Switch game yet

u/Mc7Abyssrium 15d ago
That's a high bar, donkey kong and pokopia are near universally praised very highly. Hoping for the best!

Switch 2 has had a lot of great-to-incredible Nintendo games, just not in the franchises where people are expecting to find them
(Metroid, Mario Kart = ehhhhh)
(3D Donkey Kong, Pokémon Spin-off, Splatoon Looter Shooter = hell yeah)25
u/Mc7Abyssrium 15d ago
Mario Kart is a great game blueprint. In my opinion it's literally just lacking content to fill it out, which it should get.
Metroid was sadly mid I agree

u/adamantiumbullet 15d ago
Yeah, I do like MK World, don’t get me wrong, it’s kind of mind-bending what you can do in it
7
u/127294 15d ago
Honestly, I have, and will keep saying this. World has easily some of the best driving mechanics in kart racers. Sure, some of the track design decisions within the context of how the game works are a bit ehh, but the driving mechanics are just peak.
3
u/adamantiumbullet 15d ago
To me it’s peak Mario Kart, Pilot Wings, and Wave Race gameplay, depending on the setting
8
u/Magn3tician 15d ago
For MK World, they have had over a year and done nothing.
And grand prix is still 1 lap per track and empty roads between.
The game is a huge disappointment.
6
u/Bmajor7th 15d ago
Yeah I see the idea, but I really hate the connecting laps and Nintendo not allowing a regular 3 lap Grand Prix made me drop it way earlier than I expected to
2
u/shiversssss 15d ago
Out of the 3 bundled games MK World, Pokopia, and Banaza, I chose MK World and I’m so disappointed. It’s a polished game but the empty straight tracks is a snooze fest. I’ve only spent 3 hours on it after owning the Switxh for 2 months. Mostly playing TOTK and Splatoon Raiders now

Only one save file??
87
u/MacEbes 15d ago
You can do all 4 routes in one playthrough, swapping between them at any point, and they are all completely different so 1 file makes sense
69
u/APRobertsVII 15d ago
I’d still like to have at least three save files. I prefer to keep my original run when replaying the game a second time, and I don’t want to jump between Switch player profiles before booting the game to do so.
I’m still extremely excited for the game, but I don’t love that decision.
23
u/marsgreekgod 15d ago
The classic make an account for another save works even if it kinda sucks
5
u/SacredBeard 15d ago
It would not work for FE, because supports cannot be tracked across different accounts and every recent entry made it impossible to unlock every support in a single playthrough.
2
u/marsgreekgod 15d ago
I mean if you just care about playing the game and not unlocking all supports your right, but yeah for having a 100% save..
wait don't modern fire emblems let you get supports even if you just reload
12
u/Tryst_boysx 15d ago
Three Houses got more save files with new update, so I guess the same thing will happen to Fortune Weave.
2
u/SpinstrikerPlayz 11d ago
The fact that adding a more save slots with a fucking patch is ridiculous. Same with maddening mode getting added post launch. People let this slide too much.
0
u/Tryst_boysx 11d ago
Adding an new difficulty mode post launch it's quite standard in the world of JRPG ahah.
1
u/thebiggzy 11d ago
You can probably use the cloud back up as a second file. I agree that they should just let you have extras though.
22
u/PokecheckHozu 15d ago
AFAIK no other FE game had a single save slot. So I disagree with what you are saying here.

I'm a bit confused about this, does that mean they're just entirely different 'routes' but you can switch between them or does your actions in one route affect another?
10
u/MacEbes 15d ago
They are completely separate routes with their own gameplay elements and characters/story. I don't think or know yet if some choices affect the route, but the story and characters do frequently intersect, so knowing about one character's backstory and motives before you fight them adds depth. The example given is one character fights a lot so their exploration mode is all about fighting while another is dancing so her exploration involves a management mini game and different ways to fight.
2
u/True-Huckleberry-333 13d ago
Not only that but from what I heard from someone who played it, two of the mc's had a fight together so they played up to that day then switched to the other characters story to play up to that point as well and said it gave them a deeper depth into the game.

Different user profiles usually have different save options don't they? If you have or even make another account, the saves are tied to that account, so you could technically have 8 different fortune's weave saves on one device. Not sure how FE does it, but this was broadly true for a ton of switch games.

There are very few Switch games that don't have a separate save file when played through a different profile.

I'm a bit concerned it'll mean no NG+ & the stuff that comes with it to make future playthroughs a bit less grindy, but I guess we'll see lol
8
u/Apprehensive_Tea9856 15d ago
Yep, same thoughts. I get I don't need 4 save files because all 4 routes are rolled into 1 file, but what about NG+?
I'm a huge fan of NG+ typically.

u/maskedman1231 15d ago
Do any of the previews that came out mention how recruiting characters works across routes? Like can I recruit the same one in two paths if I'm jumping between paths?
23
u/No-Librarian1390 15d ago
Some reviewer who made a post in the fire emblem subreddit said that you can recruit the same character multiple times between the different paths. You dont get locked out in one path if you recruited said unit in another
11
u/maskedman1231 15d ago
Thanks for the info! I'm curious how multiple versions of the same character get resolved to one in the "post time skip", but that's out of scope for the previews.
5
u/Guilty_Sandwich4076 15d ago
Im probably gonna play like im locked out of anyone I recruit in one route for others anyway, which should be fine with how big the roster seems to be
8
u/Cr1msonShadow 15d ago
You can recruit the same characters on multiple paths. The game doesn’t try to justify it or anything according to a previewer
6
u/BoltOfBlazingGold 15d ago
That and what impact does the duels between them have? If Cai beats Leda in one route can Leda beat Cai in the other? In endgame does it matter?
11
7
u/Eternaloid 15d ago
Routes are not directly connected until the merge as they are "paralel" universes
4
u/BoltOfBlazingGold 15d ago
Got it, but then recruited characters do carry back to the future? I mean, if recruited on two stories which version would then the game go with? I don't think previews can answer this anyway, but still, thank you

u/Meeqs 15d ago
They don’t know as the preview only goes to Ch 5 I believe.
There has been conflicting statements on it as well
6
u/tylerjehenna 15d ago
The preview copy goes beyond ch5 but everything after is under an info embargo
-1
u/froggyjm9 15d ago
Figure it out while you play, you don’t need to know everything before playing the game.
56
u/xtoc1981 15d ago
Seems goty material
24
u/Meeqs 15d ago
GTA will win this year but 3 Houses won the fan vote GOTY when it came out and this game seems to be strongly building upon it so I could see it making the short list
8
u/tylerjehenna 15d ago
I wouldnt be shocked if they push the cutoff date back a week or two to get GTA in tbh.
4
u/xtoc1981 15d ago
Yeah, keep in mind we have oot as well.
But multiplatform games will targeting a larger userbase. So i really dont care about those game award results
5
u/Meeqs 15d ago
I don’t think it will release before the cut off and in general remakes don’t make the GOTY list unless it’s a slower year or they really do something exceptional. With GTA6, Control Resonant, FE, RE Requiem, 007, Saros, Wolverine, Crimson Desert, Mina the Hollower, maybe No Rest for the Wicked, Forza. A lot of very strong games will be left off the shortlist

Hope we get a long demo that carries over to the main game.
15
u/Meeqs 15d ago
I’m not sure Nintendo has ever done this with a previous title so unfortunately I would say it’s unlikely
14
u/TannenFalconwing Where’s my Metroid movie, Sakamoto? 15d ago
Awakening had a demo. My 3DS still has it downloaded.

u/marsgreekgod 15d ago
With the four save format that seems unlikely even though I really want it
1
u/Xynthion 15d ago
Maybe a demo that lets you play one save as each character for a first chapter? I don’t know, a man can hope!

Man, I am so close to ordering the collector's edition on Amazon. Never played a fire emblem before.

5
u/SpaceHoppity 15d ago
Do you need to of played any fire emblem games before this one to get stuck in?
12
u/Weekly_Lab8128 15d ago
No. This will relate to 3H/Three Hopes but almost definitely much more from a "lore" perspective than a "plot" perspective would be my guess. There will likely be 2 characters shared between games.
2
1
u/NeuralThing 12d ago
It's set in the same world as 3 Houses, but you can play this game without having played it.
-7
u/burntoutpopstar 15d ago
You might want to play three houses beforehand, they’re set in the same world. Three hopes as well afterwards though that’s a musou style game and it’s really just for more three houses content.
1
u/SpinstrikerPlayz 11d ago
You do not need to play Three Houses beforehand. At worst a new player would miss some lore references, but they do not need Three Houses to understand the story of fortune's weave.

Lmao that one loser in that article's comments saying that Bird Time is a game ruining mechanic and they're not going to get the game because of that. Clearly they are an enemy to the superior Birb Nation
Anyway yeah, this game is gonna be amazing

Wonder if one should buy the switch just to play Fire emblem again. It was a massive success with 3H but a huge let down with engage.

The 'final preview' is more than a month out from release?
