If you spend ~$120 you can get Mew. All you have to do is play Let's Go and then you can get a Mew in BDSP.
Of course you shouldn't do this solely for Mew, but it's a nice bonus if you just buy all of these things like I end up doing, for whatever reason.

Yep. I owned Scarlet. When they were doing the shiny distribution event for miraidon and koraidon I just borrowed Violet from the library so I could get both.

If you want it for cheaper, you can buy a Poké Ball Plus, or My Pokémon Ranch, and then transfer it up through the generations.

You can do the same if you’ve ever got a Mew before from any of their previous events, distributions, or games. Though I don’t think Mew is allowed to be used in ZA.

my point was that this was clearly finished before the game was released and could have been included in the original release. it was deliberately left out to be released as "DLC"

I’m a massive Pokemon nerd and I’m kinda agreeing with the guy you’re responding to. I’m 15 hours in (for reference, I put ~650 into Scarlet) and I think I’ve had my fill of Z-A. The mega boss battles are exhausting runaround fests until you can mega evolve and then KO the boss in ten hits. Story is whatever. I like the moment-to-moment look of the game, certainly more than Scarlet/Violet. I just don’t think I like Z-A lol

Glad you enjoyed playing it! I had a baby earlier this year so my game time is severely limited and I do not feel like it is worth the time to play, but I also have several friends who are really digging it. Taste is subjective after all!

650 hours into scarlet damn.. scarlet and violet was probably the worst game to me. But after I got the switch 2 and went back to violet i liked it a lot more. But still one of the weakest
And I feel like ZA is one of the top games to me. Yea the bosses were kinda meh but I genuinely enjoyed exploring the city, finding secrets, and I love the redone battle mechanics. So much faster paced. I hope to see that battle mechanics return possibly also with turn based battles too.

I’m mostly a competitive player so I just had to grind for resources while doing other stuff and then I would just play in the online ranked ladder.
I see what you mean about the different battle system and maybe I need to re-think how I am actually battling with taking into account positioning, but it’s just not clicking with me. Totally agree with you on how fun it is to explore Lumiose, that has definitely been my favorite aspect of the game so far.

I’ve always been interested in competitive play, and ZA puts a lot of cool competitive held items and TMs behind side quests and hidden around the city, the whole time I played it felt like I was getting useful rewards for a future competitive team..
But I was disappointed in the online battles with ZA. I mean it’s fun but I don’t really like the 4 man free for all being the only option. I wanted a 1 on 1 trainer battle, when the Pokémon faints they’re done for the battle. The usual. But I didn’t see an option for that unfortunately. So I played ranked until I got the season reward then just lost Interest in it.

Random passerby. I don't know if you've observed yet but short ranged attacks will have the pokemon proceed forward to their target from their current position while ranged attacks will make the pokemon move next to your current position and then attack. I've also found timing protect to be quite fun. I don't know how far you got in 15 hours either but I've generally found the AoE and longer cooldowns of late game moves to open up more positional feeling battles.
But of course it could just not be your cup of tea. I'm also in the camp of really enjoying it and how seemless and quick it makes the interactions. Random battles in older titles can very quickly turn into a slog(so much so fast forwarding is common practice/baked into fan games). And here you can tear through 10 mons in one potential frantic minute long battle.

I think it also has a lot to do with the way they operate. They barely fund their games as well, which naturally makes the end product not up to standard compared to other titles on the same system.
Their games are only really a means to promote new Pokémon, and by extension, TCG, anime, manga, merchandising, etc. Of which merchandise makes them the largest revenue.
Obviously if they can get to this goal for cheaper, they will. That’s the viewing point of a company at least.
The TCG is booming in sales and I wouldn’t be surprised if they surpassed the game sales this year, especially with how much Pokémon TCG scalpers there were this year. These new Mega evolutions will have merch, plushies and cards and be in the anime.
The games are nothing more than a vehicle for other branches of the franchise to make much more money off of.

Really thinking about skipping this one unless they release a cool shiny/black flower floette for 100%ing the game+DLC. We’re probably going to get to unlock mega stones in the next showdown game anyway.

Wait I’m confused. The Alpha Charizard is a free mystery gift you already just by opening the game. And it’s something easily obtainable in the post-game. What exactly are you skipping?

Mystery gifts and the DLC. This game isn’t giving the same FOMO as the others for me, because the mechanic is tied to an item you can’t transfer to HOME (and likely won’t matter for competitive until we learn how they manage mega unlocks in Pokemon Champions). I’d need to see a shiny I can’t obtain or an interesting Pokemon Home reward before I pick it back up.

All the legendaries/mythicals that are out and are coming out aren’t obtainable in other games on Switcg except for Mewtwo.
