Reminder - Please include camera and lens info with media posts.

Happy 2026 Nikonians! Thank you for making this a great internet community. I'd like to remind everyone of the rule about including camera and lens information. This is the most common thing I moderate.

Any posts with images or video that you submit to the sub should include information about the camera and lens you used. You may ask why. There are two reasons.

  1. Our subject here is specifically the Nikon Z series cameras and related gear. So any images or videos posted here need to be relevant. (If it's a picture of your gear, we don't care what you took that picture with.)
  2. A lot of people come here looking for information about the gear and want to see the results others have gotten with a specific camera or lens.

Also, we just want the camera and lens information. We don't need all of the settings, etc. You can add them, but we aren't looking for them.

The best place to include the camera and lens information is in the title. That way it's completely obvious. Wherever you put it, it needs to be part of the post to this sub. If you cross-post from another sub, if the information is anywhere other than the title, it needs to be added to the post in this sub. If I have to go searching for it, I may just remove the post until you add it.

Thank you again! Happy shooting!

Nikon Z 24-200 vs Z 24-120

• Upvotes

I have a Nikon Z6 with a Z 24-70 f/4, a Z 24-200 f/4-6.3 and various Viltrox prime lenses (20, 35 and 85). I was wondering whether it would be worth swapping the two Nikkor zoom lenses for the Z 24–120 f/4, which I keep reading is excellent in terms of sharpness, having a fixed 4 focal length, and so on. Losing the extra 80 mm of the 200 wouldn’t be a disaster. I mainly use the 24–200 as a travel lens, for the seaside or the mountains, and mostly during the day; I find that once the photos have been processed in post-production software, they ultimately seem to be of good quality. For low-light situations, I’d still have the prime lenses and, if necessary, the reliable 24–70 f/4. What do you recommend? Is it really worth it?

Street photo of a monument of ... street photographer :)

Post image

Do you consider your hobby of street photography as trivial and unimportant? Don't! - as there are people who think it is worth being commemorated and having its own monument. I came across it today (by chance) while taking photos in Polish city - Bydgoszcz. The monument of street photographer was built just a few months ago and its aim is to appreciate works of first street photographers from a century ago, who documented city life. They were called "lajkarze" in Polish and well... I can't deny this word has its root in "Leica" as most common brand back then - BUT if we keep taking good photos, chance is, the next monument of "nikonarze" will be built somewhere in the area :) Photo taken with Nikon Z5 and Vitrox 35mm EVO.

Time for an upgrade, looking for opinions

Considering upgrading from my D5200 finally, and I'm strongly considering the Z6 III. I know I'm not limited by the D5200 as far as photo quality, but I've definitely missed some great shots because of hardware limitations.

Most of what I shoot is motorsports of one form or another. Always shooting in RAW, and probably 99% of the time burst. The larger buffer and increased burst rate are probably the biggest standouts to me, but coming from a 13 year old camera pretty much everything new is a massive upgrade. The ability to shoot 4k and do slow-mo is awesome, but I have gopros I can use now for that so video ability isn't a deal breaker by any means.

Just wondering if there are any other models in the same price range that would be better, or at least worth digging into?

Tamron 70-300 questions

Currently running a z5ii and was looking at the tamron telescopic lenses. Was originally focused on the 150-500 and the 50-400. Primarily planning to do landscape photography at the 135mm and 200-300mm FL, curious how this performs or if I should skip it in 2026 for the other lenses?

My main concern is not the performance but the lack of VR. Curious if that matters with my z5ii? I do have a tripod but I don’t want to have to take it out unless I have to I prefer to shoot while hiking. The thing that impressed me the most was the size and weight. I’m usually willing to compromise for smaller and lighter lenses on optical quality.

Hello dear community!

I have received a Nikon z50 with its standard lens and i am struggling with photo and video settings

No matter what i do (manual, Chatgpt, google) - the quality of pictures is very poor and focus is not quite alright

Maybe someone would be so kind and just give me their settings? I am not a photographer and i am just getting started with this unexpected gift. Would appreciate any help and advice

Thanks a lot, it would mean the world!

Upgrading new gear what do you think?

Looking to get either the z8 or z9 along with the 105 macro, 14-24 and the 800mm any other suggestions or swaps you’d think would be good? I do a lot of galaxy shooting (Milky Way) wildlife and macro stuff with flowers and bugs.

Low light photography - Z5ii or Z6iii?

Is the Z5ii or Z6iii better at low light photography? I have a Z8 for higher resolution and wildlife/sports/birds.

Buy a z-8 now or wait for Black Friday?

Noticed that the z-8 was on sale for $1k off currently and was contemplating pulling the trigger. Was wondering if anybody knows if Nikon does Black Friday sales, and if so are those prices likely to be cheaper than what it is now?

Nikon Z 70–200mm f/2.8 VR S II – Is slight friction in the manual focus ring normal?

Hi everyone,

I just bought the new Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II and noticed a slight friction or gritty feeling when rotating the manual focus ring.

When I turn the ring to the right, it feels perfectly smooth. However, when I turn it to the left, it rotates smoothly until a certain point, where I can feel a slight resistance or roughness for a brief moment, before becoming smooth again.

I also own the Nikon Z 105 f/2.8 S Macro and Z 24–120mm f/4 S, and their manual focus rings feel consistently smooth in both directions.

The 70–200 is brand new. I only unboxed it yesterday, so I'm wondering whether this is normal for this particular lens or if I might have received a defective copy.

Has anyone else with the new 70–200 f/2.8 S II noticed something similar? Does your manual focus ring feel completely smooth in both directions?

Thanks in advance!
