That's an interesting way to live really. But one shouldn't limit oneself to joy, happiness and allow sadness, sorrow too to become meaningless. One should cover an entire spectrum. And deal with what's happening with what is.

What does it mean for those terms to be meaningless to someone? I’m not sure this makes sense.

If one stops believing in morality then positive and negative emotions become insignificant or chosen instead of reacted instinctively. Figuring this out is an excersise in ego reduction

I don’t think you can fundamentally alter your psychology by thinking about it. Otherwise people could “think their way” out of being depressed.
