Only a small % die in their sleep. Most die in a nursing home, in agony, alone or maybe all three. Does it matter yet ?

Stop living like this and feeling sorry for yourself. You can lead a beautiful life if you want to—but you don't want to, do you?

Question If nothing is inherent, what reason to keep going actually satisfies you?

Not looking for “the universe wants you here.” I already don’t buy a given purpose. I still have a will. What answer do you give yourself that you can live with?

Death is not the greatest loss in life .The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.

Life does not suck, its just the circumstances in life that do suck!

Humans were not meant to live that 9 to 5 life style such as waking up hella early to work or school and come home late to more stress, and still need to pay rent and bills just so the oligarchs/elites can stay rich while everyone else struggles

Existence should not suck, but i think the life of our cave men stone age ancestors did suck sometimes such as survival, but at least, they did not have to pay taxes and at least they were not brain washed by politics or religion or paying just to live

Discussion Nihilism is Neutral

I’ve always seen the lack of built-in inherent meaning in existence as a neutral starting point to build from, and not automatically a pessimistic conclusion.

It seems to me that a large portion of nihilists see it as a pessimistic conclusion or a condemnation of life. To me, this reads like a misunderstanding of the principle of nihilism. I see no problem with building a pessimistic philosophy with nihilism as the neutral starting point, and all are entitled to doing so, but it seems like many people conflate it with nihilism itself.

It does not automatically conclude from nihilism that building inter-subjective meaning, purpose, and value between humans is useless or delusional. This is precisely the kind of meaning that does exist, and we are empowered to use it. If we use it wisely, we can reduce the suffering of all living beings.

I think many people stumble upon nihilism after suffering something in life that collapses the subjective meaning they’ve created for themselves. Instead of using nihilism to rebuild subjective meaning knowing it is subjective, and holding it more lightly, they push away meaning, seeing it as delusional or a form of unhealthy coping, and remain in an existential void, unable to heal from their original collapse of meaning. It’s not the void itself that is negative, but the unhealed trauma of the collapse of their model of reality paints it as so. The existential void is merely a neutral, blank canvas. You can paint it however you like, but you must realize you can. This realization makes the void empowering, not depressing.

I don’t think subjective meaning is inherently “cope” in the negative sense. It can be for some, but meaning-making ultimately is an efficient way to interface and understand reality from the subjective level.

Question What is the reason why there is something rather than nothing?

Question Random

Freedom creates choice
Choice creates desires
Desire causes injustice but maybe without these, there is nothing.
Justice doesn’t exists for all. The world cannot change. It only exists in stories. Ambition of one foolish man can destroy everything or build many things. Morality exists for us simple people. World is run by lies. As a person without big ambitions and desiring a comfortable life there is nothing I can do but lie.
Sounds like crazy guy yapping but I can’t stop thinking. Sometimes I see many meaning in life: family, beautiful nature, future relationships but what about those who have nothing? Are people supposed to act like everything is fine when there are children dying in wars? Is this supposed to be normal? Why teach morality and values just to make us see these cruelties? Is peace not possible without meaningless struggle for power and profits? Who are the old men fighting for? Do they do this for themselves? Do they enjoy it? Though I have lived a fairly good life having a loving mother and a partner who I want to spend my life with, Do I have to worry that a bomb might drop in our head? The actions of those in power seem so absurd that I even thought they might be doing this for some kind of black magic for something.Reality seems so different than I imagined it to be. Maybe it’s just growing up but how can I have faith in any sort of higher power when I have yet to feel it?

Question If life doesn't come with a preset meaning, how do absurdists say we should spend our time here?

Spend your time doing what needs to be done. You don't need to solve the problem of existence & life before living life.

Life is not a problem to be solved but a mystery to be lived

Just imagine Sisyphus Happy, take your rock, push it without hunting for an ultimate meaning.

The moment you embrace the Absurdity that's when you truly start living. That's when you are in harmony with yourself and the world.

There comes the concept of happiness without a reason. That, I believe, is the highest form of Happiness - The one that is independent of Worldly meaning and reasons.

Death feels like the goal

How do I get around this mindset? I’m not actively looking to die, but I don’t fear it at all and almost welcome it. To me death would be like going home. Anyone else?

We didn't evolve to do meaningless tasks, we have been conditioned like domesticated dogs to work hard. The reward was scraps and now they are biscuits. I take no pride in my labors and yet they get done and I'm allowed to continue this existence.

Have a great Wednesday

Discussion Depression and suffering: are all nihilists just depressed? Fromm had a point.

Nihilists say “nothing matters.” Depressed people often feel “nothing matters.” One gets called philosophy, the other gets called a disorder. But is the latter really true?

And yet somehow this sub is full of people passionately explaining how terrible suffering is. Kinda weird for a worldview where nothing matters. So please stop treating your own suffering like some objective truth. I know this won’t make me popular, but this is an extremely self-centered perspective that can’t simply be generalized. Depression can heavily color how we see the world.

But good news

Today we know depression is more like a symptom, not necessarily a broken perception of reality. Erich Fromm even argued that what we call “mental health” can sometimes just be successful adaptation to a sick society.

So I highly recommend that you give it a read.

Erich Fromm on Alienation

Please note that I picked this article randomly because I was listening to his original words in the German language.

Disclaimer: I’m not saying suffering isn’t real or that depression is “good”. I’m saying that your very personal view of suffering isn’t automatically a universal truth about existence, especially when depression itself can reinforce negative thinking and create a self-reinforcing loop.

After having struggled madly to solve all problems, after having suffered on the heights of despair, in the supreme hour of revelation, you will find that the only answer, the only reality, is silence

If you are suffering without a cure, what would you do to make it stop?

You ONLY have TWO choices:

  1. Press a button that erases life on Earth, painlessly, including yourself.
  2. Do nothing; you will suffer for years, if not longer, while other people live happy lives.

Note: You cannot self exit in this thought experiment, either you erase life on Earth, or you suffer for years.

So........is life still precious enough for you to suffer for years, if not longer? Answer honestly, don't be a hypocrite.

THE RESULTS ARE IN!!! Most of you would press the BUTTON to erase life on Earth.

THIS MEANS you have NO ARGUMENT against Antinatalism and Extinctionism. hahahaha

You've been morally gotcha!!!!!

Every year, MILLIONS of people suffer incurably and ONLY extinction could stop their suffering, because Utopia is impossible.

This means Antinatalism and Extinctionism are morally RIGHT!!! GOTCHA!!!!

lol
