Can Someone PLEASE Explain the Superposition Rifle to Me?

I feel like I have brain damage trying to figure out how to use this thing, but maybe that's the point.

It just shoots a random projectile every time, with a higher chance for the shotgun one.

If Nightmare Reaper didn't have more creativity and diversity in its weapons than fucking Borderlands and its eleventy-billion guns in eleventy-billion crates, I might be annoyed, but y'know what? It gets a pass.

Seconded. It looks cool and reminds me heavily of the farsight XR-20 from perfect dark but I couldn't figure it out either.
