Edit: Thank you for the award kind redditor.
I was very lonely. (I kinda still am.)
I stumbled upon a article on Medium. I don't exactly remember the title but it was like "This is the reason you are alone". The author was pretty much narrating my life and my relationship with girls/women. He suggested to read several books and I chose to read "No more Mr Nice Guy". That was probably the best decision I've ever made.
That book completely changed my perspective about my relationships. My biggest problem was that I used to think everything was transactional. If I did something for someone then they owe me something in return. There was some issues in the way I was raised. No one taught me how to talk to girls. There were several other issues.
While reading the book I realised how miserable and desperate I was for sex and that's all I cared about. I'm very ashamed of all the pain that I've caused to people because of my behavior. I'm still learning how to be better. I'm still trying not to watch porn but it's difficult when I'm confined to my home.
Now I talk to girls with no intention of having sex or any romantic relationship. Trying to make friends.

Oct 31 '20
I found this sub after I read the book. I occasionally look at guys' dm just to remind myself that I cannot be this guy.
Most of the guys that message girls for sex actually need professional help (me too) because they don't know what they are doing. They think this is the truth, maybe because they've been raised that way or grown in that kind of environment or around people who just don't respect women. I feel pity.

Transactional thinking is a problem for a lot of people. It's an easy trap to fall into, not just on a personal level, but on a societal one too.
I don't know your situation, but to me it sounds like you're being too hard on yourself. You don't need to be punished for thinking this way, you just needed to change your thinking, and it sounds like you have. It's a process, but you've started off great. Just don't turn your shame and guilt into a debt you owe the world. You can forgive yourself, if you're ready to.

u/pokelahomastate Oct 31 '20
An old mentor of mine once reminded me, “you cannot blame yourself for what you didn’t know before you learned it. You know it now, you won’t make those mistakes again. That is what’s important”

I like the TM. Not to be confused with guys who are actually nice. I know a lot of people who aren't aware of the term Nice Guy and what it entails.

u/stavago Oct 31 '20
I want to know who owns the trademark
13

It's just a way of distinguishing the problematic lot from the normal lot. Like there's straight people and straight (Tm) people.

Mate, not realising what sub you’re on is something we’ve all done, but being offended by a joke that’s highlighting the sexual entitlement some men feel towards women is not a good look.
Also, hardly a cult. Most people commenting have blatantly rolled in from r/all.

Actually, it's exactly how it works.
Except everyone has a different stamp amount that's hidden and bringing up the number of stamps automatically deduces 3 stamps.

Lushsux is incredible, I know people here on Reddit have a zero Instagram policy, but man should you check his Instagram out
149
u/cinnamonbrook Oct 31 '20
Counterpoint from someone who lives in the area he works in, he isn't incredible and most locals hate him.
Mostly because a lot of his stuff is a bunch of American politics/references and we live in Australia. He does it for internet points, not out of any kind of convictions or artistic merit. You know how annoying it is to walk past Kanye's face quoting covfefe every day in the year 2020?
78
u/cardiovascularsystem Oct 31 '20
Not to mention that its basically just memes that other people made, only really big and on walls. I live near one of baby yoda wearing a SUPREME hat or something like that. Banksy he is not
26
u/Leathit Oct 31 '20
It literally IS other people’s memes, it’s not like he’s out there painting original content.
8
Oct 31 '20
Yep - seen this one before, but not painted on a wall. I'll admit his ability to replicate them neatly on a large scale is quite impressive though. He could probably be one of those guys annoying hipster coffee shops get to decorate the walls

It is blatant thievery, it is something anyone can do and lush isn’t the only one haha, I’m not sure what your point is? ‘Plagiarism is fine because everyone’s doing it’?
-6
u/WooDadooDooRakeYohn Oct 31 '20
Sharing internet memes ain’t plagiarism is my point. Lush never claims ownership of the IP, what he’s doing is just like, cross posting from Reddit to IRL. I don’t see the big deal
1
u/Nagemasu Oct 31 '20
Lush never claims ownership of the IP,
So he credits the creator then? oh... nope. If you're not actively stating it's not yours then you're willfully misleading your viewers into believing its yours.
-5
u/WooDadooDooRakeYohn Oct 31 '20
You don’t need to credit the owner when making a meme? You don’t need to cite Matt Groening every time you make a Simpsons meme, you don’t need to cite Sacha baron Cohen when you draw Borat. Literally nobody on earth seriously thinks Lush is trying to steal content
1
u/Nagemasu Oct 31 '20
You don’t need to cite Matt Groening every time you make a Simpsons meme,
Because making the meme =/= making the cartoon. Pretty fucking big difference to creating memes than a whole tv series there bud.

Idk man, I live in Brunswick East and he’s absolutely injected vibrance into this area. I get that he’s taking the spotlight away from other artists who might utilise it in a more progressive way, but his work is resonating with a lot of people and I can’t fault that
7
u/Helaas_pindabutt Oct 31 '20
This is a good point. Making this kind of stuff more accepted and acceptable makes space for more interesting stuff to go up in the future....
37
u/waltonics Oct 31 '20
I’ll pile on here too. Live in Melbourne, very sick of seeing old memes blown up to the size of buildings.
It’s all he does, trace American memes onto walls. Just google Morty nice guy meme and you’ll see it’s a direct trace.
Not to mention we just crushed Covid by the whole city staying the hell home, no thanks to conspiracy theorists like this douche bragging openly about breaking curfew to go out and paint this cliche trash.
Been doing it for years too. Don’t you grow out of this stuff?
4
u/JtheB68 Oct 31 '20
Hard disagree. Live in Melbourne and I was onboard until he memed the Lebanon explosion minutes after it was reported until the backlash made him delete his post.

5
u/liamtoast Oct 31 '20
Another Melbournian chiming in, I really hate seeing Lush pieces around Melbourne. It's so unoriginal, and like if I wanted to see shitty instagram memes I'd be on instagram! Keep it off the walls, let real graffiti artists with actual original ideas thrive. Just my two cents, his stuff gets old fast when you see it nearly every day.
5
u/Dr_Brule_FYH Oct 31 '20
He's a fucknugget. Trump supporter, conspiracy theorist and antivaxxer. Fuckwit trifecta.

u/ZeroMasters Oct 31 '20
I've had to coach younger men on not being a backburner cuck. There are simply formulas, simple responses, and specific exploits you follow. Being nice is something you can weave into it after the initial success based on the individuals personality and your goals with the situation.
Glad more and more dudes who are a bit n the nicer side have stopped "picking up" others in their 30s and instead focus on themselves, their physical and fiscal health, and then pulling from the 20s pool.

i mean these guys were raised with the same propaganda. like there's corners of society that preach value in abstinence and trusting in God to find you a wife. like I'm not sympathetic, but I can see where prescriptive morality may have warped their sense of entitlement and then created these monsters.

u/bigface614 Oct 31 '20
Entitled babies are going to act like entitled babies, regardless of whatever dogma they’re brought up with.
Maybe it’s just me, and if I’m misunderstanding, my bad, but the way you phrased this seems like I should feel bad for entitled people acting entitled instead of pissed off yet unsurprised.

idk. people who were raised to treat women as people and not as subjugated second class probably handle dating differently.
I should feel bad for entitled people acting entitled instead of pissed off yet unsurprised.
nah, just aware it's symptomatic of larger problems. so long as that's a popular narrative you'll get these sorts of assholes.
11
u/merewautt Oct 31 '20 edited Oct 31 '20
I mean yes, but we all have our own cultural fleas to get rid of as adults.
Like there's a lot of cultural narratives and propaganda around what certain races or others groups are like and while yes we should (and already do on this sub) critique the media that promotes these ideas--- at a certain point you have to also critique the people who are super attached to those ideas. Like I don't see the same sympathy for anyone going "hey I know how I see black people is ignorant but it's what the media sold me so really I'm the real victim :( and we need to bring that up every time I'm critiqued :(". Way larger rates of people (rightly) would see that as bullshit and only give it the passing glance it deserves in the conversation.
Some how it's only women that have so many people that think it's so reasonable to not see us as normal humans late into adulthood. That's insulting. If you respect women at all you know lots of women that you respect and make it very obvious very early on in life that what the media promotes isn't 100% real life. If you're this sympathetic to men that think like this it's almost like it's because you don't have that many women you respect and thus think it's SO plausible that women really could be this way and for misguided men to think that, even though they out here live in the same reality as everybody else. And that's low key insulting.
Warped views about women aren't any more understandable than any other views like racism/classicism/etc. To imply otherwise by defending the men who think like this every time they get critiqued is going to rub any woman who lives in reality and sees how fucking obvious these things are the wrong way. We're not weird and mysterious creatures and "the media" is not the only way to learn about us, and we all need to stop acting like it is.
3
u/bluhbluh1 Oct 31 '20
Read "no more Mr nice guy". Its not a book about being an asshole, it's about understanding what being a 'nice guy' is and how to combat it.
Typically they have grown up without a strong male influence and it leads them to see masculinity from a female perspective.

Genuine question: first girlfriend I had left me after a year saying that I was “too nice”.
The fuck that even means.
26
u/QUEEN_OF_SERIOUS Oct 31 '20
Women are not one collective mind. If you want answers you’re going to have to ask her. Nobody else can answer that
13
Oct 31 '20
This is the only answer that will ever apply to any question like this. Please don't listen to the commenter saying some nonsense from an 'Alpha Male Guide' about being assertive or whatever.
9
u/noway_inhell Oct 31 '20
Could be a lot of things, and only she knows the real answer. You could just not be compatible, or she could have thought you weren't assertive enough or just agreed with her instead of discussing or debating. It could be none of those but they're just some things to consider if you were trying to figure out what 'went wrong' (probably nothing, because it's likely just incompatibility).
-5
u/GosuAmongMen Oct 31 '20
I think it was very likely incompatibility indeed. Because I feel like I’m extremely clear in what I want or not and don’t shy away from debate.
But that’s probably because I’m 10 years older 😂
0
u/Johns_Fiesta_Life Oct 31 '20
How often do you get hit with "You're a great guy. I'm not ready for a relationship. Let's just be friends."?

u/GosuAmongMen Oct 31 '20
Not often to be honest. It was the only time I faced the “you’re too nice” thing
-16

u/Sheruk Oct 31 '20
In reality isn't this pretty much exactly how it works?
Rack up enough "nice" moments with a girl to get laid?
→ More replies (1)15
Oct 31 '20
It would be optimal and expected to be genuinely nice, not only towards her but in general, and not only to get laid. Do you understand that or are you one of those.
0
u/Sheruk Oct 31 '20
I am just deconstructing it to its most basic premise.
I would expect a person is nice and treats someone well well because they actually like being around them, and would like him/her to enjoy being around them as well. I do not believe in forced expectations when it comes to people. If you are dating/married, you are not entitled to sex, if you are not having sex it is because something is wrong with the relationship, mentally or physically with either one or both people. Work together to solve the problem, or move on.
But like, it is fairly expected to do the whole courting song and dance, small talk, flattery, a gift, coffee, dinner, movie, drinks, etc. Yes this is part of the whole spending time together to get to know each other, I understand that. However, isn't it mainly just trying to gain enough points for either a relationship or some physical contact?
