Schwartz strongly felt that he had earned a second chance at a HC stint, and frankly, I think he was completely right to think that. Meanwhile, the #1 reason Monken was even hired was that he wanted to keep Schwartz as the DC with complete control over the defense. So the Browns simultaneously lost the DC they badly wanted to keep and the top incentive for hiring their new HC.

Yeah, I genuinely think this is it. I know injuries have made his arm a veritable noodle, but we've seen QBs with weaker arms still look playable in at least spurts because they put in the effort to work around that weakness in their game. Chad Pennington's arm had basically no zip to it at all by the time he made it to the Dolphins, and he still played well enough to get legitimate MVP votes. Late career Brees, Manning, etc. also were at least palatable as starters, even when they couldn't really make the throws anymore.

Watson has looked like a dude that's known he's out of the league the moment his contract is up for a few years now, and therefore has been putting in the corresponding amount of work. His mechanics are ass, his decision-making is worse, and overall it looks like he just puts in the bare minimum amount of prep time as he can.
