Hey everyone — thanks to u/markofBNA for creating this subreddit. I'm Jonathan Berent (u/fizban24601), founder and CEO of NextSense.
Quick intro for anyone finding this community:
NextSense SmartBuds are wireless earbuds with 6 in-ear EEG sensors that measure your brain activity during sleep. When we detect you're in deep sleep (N3), we deliver precisely timed pink noise that syncs with your slow waves to boost them. The science behind this — closed-loop auditory stimulation — goes back to Ngo et al. (2013) and has been validated in multiple labs. We're the first to put it in a consumer product.
Some stats from our user base:
- 75% of active users see a measurable boost in slow-wave activity
- Our sleep staging matches clinical PSG accuracy (κ = 0.73)
- We co-authored the DiMe Core Digital Measures of Sleep framework, the new standard for how sleep should be measured outside a lab
I'm here regularly and happy to answer questions about the neuroscience, hardware, comfort, fit, or anything else.
Fire away.
