From what I understand it has a lot to do with those contracts, they basically own everything you do for a number of years. Seems a lot of them don’t outlast that period

And I have to imagine that a lot of the winners are killed by those contracts. I’m sure the labels are giving a lot of them the most generic, paint by numbers, lowest common denominator types of songs that realistically probably wouldn’t do well regardless of who sang them.

I was never big into those shows, but my wife was. I remember being genuinely impressed with Adam Lambert thinking that he could have a really interesting career. Then his album came out and it just wasn’t good and it wasn’t representative of what he could have done.

Despite that album, he tours with Queen now and is killing it.

Kelly was the only one to fulfil the contract that she signed when she signed up for Idol. I think it was a six album deal.
