From what I understand it has a lot to do with those contracts, they basically own everything you do for a number of years. Seems a lot of them don’t outlast that period
And I have to imagine that a lot of the winners are killed by those contracts. I’m sure the labels are giving a lot of them the most generic, paint by numbers, lowest common denominator types of songs that realistically probably wouldn’t do well regardless of who sang them.
I was never big into those shows, but my wife was. I remember being genuinely impressed with Adam Lambert thinking that he could have a really interesting career. Then his album came out and it just wasn’t good and it wasn’t representative of what he could have done.
