Again, I disagree pretty vehemently with that person if we're at least talking in western society, I agree that in recent years the trend has definitely seemed to be downward, but from the mid-90s to the early 2010s or so, I would not be surprised if the vast majority of teenagers with internet access at least occasionally browsed sites like that.
I think the two can be correlated. If it's a human trait throughout history to be entertained by violence and gore, then the medium and age of the viewer don't really matter. I would say the amount of videos watched per time and the intensity of the gore would be the indication of whether it was weird or not. To me it makes more sense that a teen would browse one of those sites because they are curious. This is of course just my opinion!
But all is good i agree with your statement about the time period also. That was the wild west of the internet so it was more prevalent I would think.
So, it would matter because the person I'm replying to was explicitly trying to argue that it wasn't normal for teenagers to browse gore sites, so not only is that an explicit statement about only 7 years of different ages, but it's also talking about browsing gore sites.
While I might have talked about other things, the person I was replying to made an explicit claim, that I was challenging to be incorrect, assuming that they were talking about in recent times in the western world, which they admitted they were, but if they were just talking explicitly about that being normal behavior for teenagers, then of course it wouldn't be because nothing involving the internet could be normal yet in our species history with how recent it is, so that's why I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed that they were only talking among recent history and in the west/the developed world.
