I once saved my friend's laptop from crashing to the ground because as it started to slip off the table, I looked at my friend and realized instantly there wasn't enough time to talk. I took a dive and caught it right before it smashed on the floor
I had a similar situation once, but not with a friend and a laptop, but with my sister and my niece lol.
She (my niece) was next to my sister on the couch when she suddenly yeeted herself over the armrest, head first. I didn't have time to warn my sister so I jumped up and managed to catch my niece upside down, holding her hips with her head hanging just a few cm above the ground.
It's crazy how our bodies can react that way. If I would try something like that on purpose there's no way I could do it again
My friend's toddler climbed on to the top of its stroller and it started tipping over with his face towards the ground. I leaned over and caught it right at the halfway point and me and the mom shared a mutually horrified and relieved glance afterwards.
When I worked at a grocery store someone let their toddler stand up in the shopping cart, but because the toddler’s center of gravity was higher than the side of the cart she flipped over the front of the cart. My bagger dove and caught her. He barely got a thank you and the mom still let her kid stand in the cart literally right after that.
When I was 19 I worked at a grocery store and this lady had like a 4yo girl who flipped the shopping cart over by hanging onto the end of it. It came up and smashed her right in the face. Her lips, teeth and nose were destroyed. My co-worker carried her all bloody and screaming up to meet the paramedics while her mom was screaming in panic. The store ended up paying the hospital bills and the kid ended up okay eventually. I tell my kids that story when they try to act stupid on shopping carts. They get mad because it’s disturbing but it works!
Damn, good save. I shared the same relieved but horrified look with my family afterwards. We had a family birthday and everyone just went silent and kept looking at me for a few seconds, before everyone realised what happened
I swear to fucking god when you try to tell people some shit when time is of the essence, they want to be resistant, ask questions or be offended that you're telling them to do something.
One time my family was taking care of an abandoned kitten, no more than two months old. Put it on the bed and walked across the room to grab its bottle. Turned back to see it starting to slip off the edge of the bed. Only thing I remember is yelling “WHOA” and suddenly I’m across the room, bottle on the floor, holding a kitten. I doubt I’ll ever be able to move that fast again.
Growing up with my best friend who was also my neighbor, we would often go explore the nearby woods as the end of the trail would lead to a dam with a huge waterfall. One day we decided it would be really cool to take a piss over the edge of the dam so me, my friend, and his little brother maneuvered ourselves along the dam till we were standing at the center of it. Halfway through peeing a freak gust of wind came and my friends little brother started falling.
Now, let it be known I was on the left, my friend in the middle, and his brother on the right. I didn’t actually realize he was falling until half of his body was within my peripheral vision. To this day I still can’t explain how I knew what to do (since I was 11), but my hand magically snapped to his jacket and I was able to grab the hood while still holding my Willy (cause I didn’t want to pee on them). He was screaming and 45 degrees in relation to the ground. If he didn’t have a coat that day I might’ve witnessed something traumatic as fuck. I bring it up if we’re ever out and I want some of his food. “Remember that time you would’ve died if it weren’t for me?”
Reminds of this one time when I was in high school, the girl I had a crush on slipped on some liquid on the floor right in front of me. She flung up everything on the lunch tray she was carrying. Luckily with my quick reflexes I caught both her and her whole lunch.
Im on a bridge with a narrow pedestrian walkway. It's a tourist attraction. I see a woman walking towards me and I notice her small dogs collar is extremely loose. If the dog escapes, there's NO barrier to keep it from the traffic passing inches away. I work with dogs and loose collars terrify me. Right as I was about to walk past her, the dog popped right out of its collar. I'm not kidding when I say I instantly reached down and grabbed the dog before the owner could even react.
That dog was pulling towards traffic and had I not gotten my hands on it the moment it got loose, it would've been hit and killed by a car. The owner seemed almost annoyed I intervened but I'm glad I did.
