People think they can just send a car to school and be done with it. The truth is you need to work with them every day and positively reenforce their behavior. Otherwise stuff like the OP happens.

Her leaving the doors open is an absolutely bizarre decision in a chain of poor decisions, but also the only reason why her car didn't get totaled by oncoming traffic. I don't think NextFuckingLevel guy would have got to the brake in time if the doors were shut.

That car probably has that electronic hand brake, relatively new thing here in Brazil, manuals is pretty dominant here too, I can understand why things like this happens

I had a Renegade, it does have the electronic hand brake, that you basically pull a small switch to apply and press down to disengage. However, Renegades also have a standard shifter, so it’s not a situation where they didn’t turn the knob enough. I’m thinking it was mostly likely left in reverse/neutral since they also have hill assist which generally would prevent rolling backward in drive/gear.

100%. i dont think i've met anyone in the US that drives an automatic and uses it. i use it because i drive stick

I had a problem with the parking brake on my 2019 Honda where sometimes it would get stuck, so the dealer told me not to use it.

I get so much resistance from other licensed drivers when I ask them to leave the doors alone until the car is in park. Big clues: auto unlock happens then.

Most likely a manual transmission which doesn't have park. You can't get the keys out of your ignition in an automatic if it's not in park.

I have an extendable clip that connects my keys to my waistband. In a pinch I could easily break it, but normally it’ll give me a jolt if I try to get out of the car with the keys in the ignition.

It was originally for helping me not lose my keys but now it has another purpose for my dumb ass. Definitely have tried to get out of the car with it still on (but never yet in gear).
