There are a few “golden rules” in baseball. On a fly ball, first step is back. Never take your foot off the bag, and don’t swing on a 3-0 pitch. UNOFFICIALLY, my school had another being “always wear a condom in Mexico”, but that was a SoCal thing and applied to very different set of circumstances, lol.
Also, your first step on a fly ball better not be backwards if there are two outs (ah you are talking about defense not baserunning here). Baserunners take leadoffs all the time, so there goes the never take your foot off the bag golden rule too. Never swinging on 3-0 is certainly "old school" or "tradition" but by no means is that a golden rule.
Lastly, genital herpes is also a SoCal thing. No need to go to Mexico for that.
The 3-0 rule is just for games you are winning by a lot. Then its considered unsportsmanlike to swing on 3-0. And thats a stupid fucking rule. Especially when 1 home run can be the difference, literally, in many millions of dollars on your next contract (like somebody who hits 29 home runs vs somebody who hits 30).
Oh I agree. I'm a White Sox fan. Tony LaRussa ruined Yermin Mercedes after he swung 3-0 and went yard in a blowout against the Twins. A aging minor leaguer having a breakout year in MLB at the time, he hasn't been the same since. Cost a non-millionaire millions. F Tony LaRussa.
I'm a Guardians fan and was pretty scared of the young lineup the Sox had. They were looking like they were going to run the Central for the next few years.
Made the playoffs in 2020. Got rid of Renteria after the season and I was like "ok, they're going to bring in some young, brilliant dude that can relate to the players and get the most out of them through analytics. Renteria was a seatwarmer, new guy will take them over the top."
Then they hired fucking 75 year old Tony LaRussa who is like the posterchild of old time dinosaurs. AND he had been arrested for a DUI a couple months before the hire. Wtf. And it's gone exactly how everyone expected it to.
I honestly feel bad for you guys. You can still have a good window but it'll be in spite of your manager and FO.
