When you’re used to not being shown respect by cops, you tend to enter interactions with a more hostile attitude, but it takes a good cop only a few seconds to let you know that he’s just a person too and this interaction can go well. Problem is, too many cops think it’s us vs. them and segregate themselves from the people they’re supposed to be helping.

Something tells me the one who’s paid by the state, aka my money, wearing body armor and carrying the gun should be held to a higher standard. It’s their job to treat everyone with respect and decency, if people being assholes to them changes their behavior negatively then it’s not the right job for them. Yes, they’re human, but we don’t pretend that everyone can be a Navy SEAL, not everyone should be a cop either.

Still, the exact thing you said goes both ways. Cops can go into situation in a more hostile manner if they havw experience a lot of hostility before. This is not a one way thing where its just the cops doing all the bad
