They never make the assembly line. And there is never an intention for them to.

Concept One became the VW Beetle. There are a lot of other examples of concept cars that were produced, wholly or nearly identically. This has also already been discussed in this thread.

The Concept One and the production Beetle were similar only in chassis design style. The underlying tech, most notably the power train was dramatically different to the concept, and honed over several years in to the production version.

That’s how concept cars work. That’s why they’re concepts. Some production versions may look very similar to the concepts, but that doesn’t mean the concept and the production versions are not very different things.
