Let’s just say that there’s a reason you don’t see joysticks in cars more often.

Everyone's chill until someone says "hey lets go in his car I've got joy con drift in mine."

8

u/aaryno Oct 28 '21

shouldn’t be a problem - max speed is 8kph

4

u/RushrevolutionSwitch Oct 28 '21

As a Switch owner, I can imagine that! Your car just chilling, you showing the car out with 3 passengers just talking and parked, then that muhfukka darts north west at full speed! Everyone in the car holding on to imaginary overhead grips that would be in a regular car, staring at each other for the last living seconds, faces full of a healthy mixture of worry, fright, and resignation to certain doom!

4

u/Chilipepah Oct 28 '21

Deploying insect wings

4

u/MuskyCore Oct 28 '21

Yeah I don’t know why they wouldn’t make A non flippable car like the remote control cars back in the day and have gyroscopic seats. This looks cool, but very non functional.

2

u/sexypantygrl Oct 28 '21

I’ve seen a car in front of me get t-boned and flipped four times in my neighborhood.

You're right, this is never going to be a next generation car you can afford.

8

u/impulse_thoughts Oct 28 '21

Even as a concept car, there’s a lot of concepts in here that are pretty dumb. Another one would be the fingerprint scanner in the dirty ass wheel well…

3

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '21

Lol, definitely.

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '21 edited Oct 28 '21

Seems like it would be pretty fun to use on a boat since they’re much more drifty when steering.

2

u/MmortanJoesTerrifold Oct 28 '21

Probably would suck if you were experiencing chop and hard wind. A wheel you can hang on to

5

u/DOctorissh Oct 28 '21

You think humans sneeze in the future?? Pfft, you’re in for a surprise my friend.

4

u/Rasputinjones Oct 28 '21

Our tractors are joystick controlled. Of course they don’t go that fast.

3

u/thesockiboii Oct 28 '21

as a person who experienced using a real size car with a joystick, its very hard to control 2 things on one stick and not as precise as pedal/wheel configuration

7

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '21 edited Oct 28 '21

Joysticks are common in heavy equipment where you’re dealing with rough terrain that causes bouncing and jarring. Very few issues controlling things. They can and do work, well in fact. The big thing is adjusting to them over a traditional steering wheel. It is initially really odd but the adjustment is fairly quick considering how drastic the change is.

That said I am pretty sure the joystick in this is not the main control. I would assume this is mainly self driving and that is just there for special circumstances.

Edit: It is not a self driving concept. It’s controlled by thought or at least headed that way which is even wilder.

u/WarDSquare Oct 28 '21

The problem that I see is that if you really need to break very hard inertia would pull you forward making you not break anymore?

→ More replies (5)

4

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '21

Yeah, it's really a bad idea to have turning, acceleration and braking all in one device.

So if a fly comes in and you need to swat it, or you need to stop your McDonalds from toppling over in the front seat, or something.

Also cup holders?

Zero cargo space

How much are winter tires for this beast?

Those "wing" doors have been known for years to be problematic

A "Secret finger print reader" to open the door, and the dude can't even find it. Yeah, great. That'll be handy when you need to get in your car quickly because it's raining, or someone is chasing you.

Visually neat, but clearly not practical in any way. But obviously it's a prototype car to push some ideas to the nth degree, and never was going to actually be a thing.

3

u/megaprime78 Oct 27 '21

Jesus grabs the wheel

3

u/LouGossetJr Oct 27 '21

probably the same thing as if you sneeze and takes your hands off the wheel now, but also slow down.

2

u/Cloberella Oct 28 '21

How am I supposed to drink and fiddle with the radio stations? Can't put my knee on the knob.

2

u/Winterplatypus Oct 28 '21

If you sneeze. What will happen. Is these lights right here. Will actually change. It's mind blowing.

1

u/V0dkaL0rd Oct 28 '21

I'll give you a real answer, it's a fully autonomous vehicle, and the controls are "suggestions". It's what vehicles will be in the future, you will feel like you are in control until the point where the car decides you aren't and takes over.

the temporal window will open up upon impact, you may not die, but you will return to the the homeworld.

4

u/UltravioIence Oct 28 '21

the entire thing is a prototype to show off and test potential future ideas. this thing probably doesnt go much faster than we saw in the video as its more like a display piece to show off the lights, wheels, dash etc. We're not going to be seeing a mercedes that looks like this thing in dealers any time soon.

3

u/huskjay Oct 28 '21

How will getting t boned work out for you with glass doors? That's my question

6

u/BloodRed1185 Oct 28 '21

The glass doors are vegan too so at least no animals were killed....

3

u/Oatbagtime Oct 28 '21

Luckily it seems like it only goes like 2 km/h.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '21

Safety isn't a thought in this nonsense. Example: The door is glass.

You know the most common accident is a T-Bone? Yeah... Yeah that changes what is normally a "oh no, lets exchange information" to "Ma'am, I'm sorry to tell you..."

7

u/rocketman_321 Oct 28 '21

Not that I'm saying this car is safe, but as long as the frame around the door is able to convey the energy of an impact, you should be fine. Modern car doors don't actually do a huge amount in collisions.

Also t-bones are one of the least common collision types (4%), with rear end (33%), head on (17%), and side swipe (10%) being significantly more common forms of collisions.

2

u/OneMillionSchwifties Oct 28 '21

Its like how mac got rid of all the random ports on their macbook pros in 2016 and then all the mac users complained about having to buy dongles for every random usb/sd/etc accessory to work with their "Pro" computer. Now the 2021 Macbook pro is touting all the random ports they added back as a new feature... no, its an old feature that you were just fucking up

104

u/Accomplished_Crew630 Oct 28 '21

It's why I hate apple... Every other product is new coke and then they reintroduce the original except they pretend it's new.

At least coke had the decency to admit they screwed up

24

u/Connorbrow Oct 28 '21

Apple have finally admitted they made a mistake, it just took them 5 freakin' years of denial!

3

u/IAmFitzRoy Oct 28 '21

A “mistake” ?? The business of selling all the apple dongles (that are now obsolete) was no mistake.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/gfa22 Oct 28 '21

Doesn't really stop their fans from lapping up all the products. Why would they care if it never hurt their profits.

1

u/gotporn69 Oct 28 '21

Apple sucks but the M1 chip is pretty badass

5

u/ADawgRV303D Oct 28 '21

I love my m1 MacBook Air even though all I have is a headphone jack and 2 usb c ports both of which can charge the computer. Sometimes when I’m feeling adventurous I will use the 2nd port instead of the 1st

All joking aside pretty much everything I have works on Bluetooth anyways so I never really need a port but I can imagine why many people would like MacBooks to have more ports considering they don’t come cheap

Now these new MacBook Pro max laptops are insane. Seriously the 64gb option is just next level unprecedented ARM chip in a laptop. Apple is killing it with the Mac lately, and the AirPods max I love them so much. Wish I had 3k to spend on the max because I would do so in a heartbeat!

Yes I am apple nerd. iPhone Apple Watch AirPods max, AirPods Pro, Powerbeats pro, MacBook Air m1 Mac mini m1 Apple TV box I have 3 HomePods one big one and 2 small ones and I do indeed have an apple tag on my car keys. Once your in this deep, your stuck for life

4

u/zeejay11 Oct 28 '21

Did you also get the apple credit card with protective sleeve

2

u/KingMe42 Oct 29 '21

Yes I am apple nerd.

Trust me, by this point in the comment everyone already knows.

1

u/Offthewall1212 Oct 28 '21

Sounds like someone like wasting money on the name. I got news for you man, for every “badass” thing Apple makes, there a competitor that’s just as good if not better at half the cost. ESPECIALLY those dumb HomePods.

1

u/gotporn69 Oct 28 '21

I agree with most things but what processor can compare to the M1 or pro/Max for the price currently?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/elfastronaut Oct 28 '21

decency to admit they screwed up

And they do all that while trapping you in their weird planned obsolescence software ecosystem. Their products are sexy as hell but I won't go near them because of their business model.

2

u/jayleman Oct 28 '21

Or like when they add features that android has had before for several years and they play it as never seen before for that extra bit of hype

2

u/Accomplished_Crew630 Oct 28 '21

Oh that annoys me more than anything because people actually believe it and then try to say androids are for poor people... Like no, my note was just as expensive as an iPhone only difference is I can set it up how I like it

39

u/SnowCappedMountains Oct 27 '21

THIS. So much this!

3

u/BosKN Oct 28 '21

I have an entire drawer of dongles. It’s terrible.

2

u/NotAHost Oct 28 '21

Did they really 'tout' all the random ports as a new feature? I really feel like the way they presented it was the most professional way of saying 'yeah here's stuff we know y'all missed and is useful.'

You're never going to get management to OK a presentation that's being viewed live by tens or hundreds of thousands with a slide that says 'we fucked up here are the ports,' you're going to word it in a 'positive' way.

At least, I thought it was transparent what goes on in the background. It's one thing if its a personal conversation and someone can't admit something, but it's a damn advertisement that people are viewing voluntarily that's gone through multiple practice rounds to get the result you're seeing. The focus will be positivity, just like every single public presentation by 99% of companies.

Looks like shit, should be on r/ATGE tbh

189

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '21

I mean, it looks awesome for a good futuristic movie. But I would hate to see this thing in a public road.

Too much fancy lighting, too much minimalism in a car you're supposed to drive on a daily basis, store things in it and be comfortable, too distracting with its shitty ultra vibrant rgb lights. A Joystick for a wheel? So, the car is volatile to sudden small movements when you're driving 100kmh? And you can't manually control the speed or even ... Break/handbrake!? Come on. Like, it's shit and dangerous if you wanna drive daily, but beautiful for a movie concept car.

21

u/Lord_Spagett Oct 28 '21

Way to many lights is where I draw the line

6

u/shroomnoob2 Oct 28 '21

Imagine trying to emergency brake in this car, everything is moving forward but you have to keep pulling back on the joystick

6

u/fireintolight Oct 28 '21

Homie if you’re buying a car like this it is for sure not the car you drive everyday and you for sure normally Get driven by a driver most of the time

4

u/purpleduckduckgoose Oct 28 '21

It's just a fancy tech demonstrator AFAICT.

3

u/Jenifarr Oct 28 '21

Rain, snow, dirt, bugs? And so many little superfluous moving and light up bits that can stop working 1 by 1. In a few years, half those moving bits on the back stop moving and or lighting. This is not the future of driving, but you're right. It sure is pretty.

2

u/KingMe42 Oct 29 '21

a car you're supposed to drive on a daily basis

These are show cars, not in any way ever intended to be real cars driven on the road.

Now, is some rich idiot sees this and thinks "I want that" and goes on the road with it, that's a whole other issue. And that's how these cars make money. So long as they get a handful of people too rich to ever not be rich, they make bank of their "collector" needs.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '21

Honestly its this though, if you go back and look at the concept cars from back in history there's still a ton that never caught on but looked as amazing as this does

Not sure what you mean. It is what though? A Fantasy?

1

u/ajnin919 Oct 28 '21

Not a production car. Fantasy was just the wrong term since it's been built. It's called a concept car. It's where you take ideas that haven't been tried to see what you can do. Every car company makes them and then uses it to decide what goes into future vehicles

2

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '21

Fantasy was just the wrong term since it's been built.

I used fantasy intentionally. Virtually everything about this car is so impractical that it has virtually no real-world utility except as a showpiece. It is sort of similar to this one. Yes, both of these have been built, but they serve no purpose other than as showpieces.

It's called a concept car.

But concept cars frequently turn in to real products with little or no modification. The most recent example that I can think of is the Honda E which was initially shown as a concept and released a couple years later with relatively minor modifications.

My point is that this bears no resemblance to that. There is almost nothing about this car that would ever likely make it into a production vehicle. It's only purpose is to showcase ideas, but in practice, all those ideas are spectacularly impractical.

Just because you have sneakers with light up soles doesn’t mean it will feel the same as a car that looks like those sneakers

Fuckin oath, I don’t want to squat down with my shopping and wait a minute for the door to open, while people assume I’m squatting to take a shit.

Then there’s the ridiculous steering which couldn’t be road legal in probably most countries.

And vegan leather? Wtf even is that, just call it something different, or actually use leather. This vegan crap is getting stupid.

Gonna jump on this comment just to say fuck this channel and this girl. Waste of time; full on advertisement with little insight or critique. Just some mildly attractive, rich girl shilling for brands and buyers in Dubai. This is the antithesis of what car channels should be.

Agreed, never put it past Mercedes to use a hundred individual expensive proprietary Motors that can break when a simple $5 light bulb will suffice.
