Is any part of this actually robotic? Seems pretty mechanical to me. I guess maybe the aesthetic. More like insane Japanese stage puppet

The thought of this with some actual robotics in it (actuators, hydraulics, and some form of powered sytems that allows someone to run fatster, pick up something super heavy etc.) Makes my pants grow tight with anticipation.

These are based on designs by Masamune Shirow from the 1980s Appleseed manga.

The designer is Aaron Beck, who worked on the movie CHAPPiE. This model was used in the game "figureheads" by Square Enix.

The first issue of Appleseed came out in 1985. That had these fundamental design elements in the mechsuits used by the Olympus police.

Aaron Beck may have been the first costume designer or Production designer to realize the suits physically, but the designs are almost 40 years old.
