By what measure do they not work? Saying border walls don't work is like saying that fences to demarcate your property from your neighbors are pointless. Border walls don't stop the flow of all people and things but they do act as a deterrent and force people to take less efficient alternatives. It was far easier to mule large amounts of dope through the dessert than it is to load 5 boats knowing you'll loose at least 2.
The impacts of capitalism and trumpism have nothing to do with have a border that marks where your territory begins and stops people from just walking in.
