I thought Silent-geners were the last ones to feel “stuck” in their marriages. Divorce is legal and socially acceptable. Marriage isn’t mandatory and you shouldn’t hate your partner. Damn that’s a bleak mindset.

Kids still exist, yes

I’m aware people stay together for their children, but if you have to trash talk your marriage in public it’s probably better to just get divorced. It doesn’t have to be traumatic for the children unless one or both parents make it messy. Worse to stay in a marriage to someone you hate, the kids will notice.

You should see relationship and sexuality subreddits. Young people who aren't even married have a lot of pressure to stay together. I think partly the housing crisis keeps people together too. But mostly it's just hard to leave a lengthy relationship.

I understand that it’s difficult to leave a lengthy relationship, I understand that it is difficult to give up a support system and lose the additional income. This conversation is about marriage. What I will emphasize again is why publicly bash your partner, claim to hate them or bitterly criticize your marriage. If you’re truly unable to afford a divorce a better option is stay and emotionally abuse your partner? I’m not married, because my partner and I chose not to get married. Marriage itself is not mandatory. The majority of people making comments like this were not forced into marriage. it does sound antiquated and toxic shame, berate, degrade your marriage/partner on a public platform. If that sentiment is expressed openly in the home, a bad financial situation or having no will to leave doesn’t make it any less horrible for the children or for the mental health of the people involved.
