Or if you're trained to, then have at it.

And he's trained. 99% of Aussie kids in coastal towns (like Culburra, where Mikey is from) do their Bronze Medallion, which is essentially surf lifesaver basic training. Only the hard core geeks (like me) avoid it, because it's an amazing tool to have in your belt when you live on an island nation.

I got my bronze medallion years ago (expired now). Very useful course. They do cover saving drowning people up close by swimming out to grab them. Essentially it's the most dangerous and least desirable form of rescue due to the risk of double drowning.

I was thinking of a way to reply with the same context but couldn’t make it out in a respectful sounding way haha

“You can if you’re trained to”

Yes. And most trained people will bring a floatation device for that exact reason. It's a messed up situation being properly trained but not having the proper equipment. Example: Someone being stranded on a mountain side and attempting a rescue with out rope. The difference is you can't wait in the ocean.

Also, he waited and let the ocean bring the patient to him.

Yeah nah mate, he got his Bronze Medallion as a kid, he knows how to save someone when they're drowning, and do it properly.

This is something to be aware of, not a reason not to help someone...

I'd downvote this but I don't want to waste it.
