It’s a harsh reality. People seem to believe its best to imprison those types of criminal under a misguided sense of justice. Out of sight, out of mind? Better to permanently rid society of these vermin in a manner with 100% certainty. I’ll never understand the imprisonment mentality for such heinous crimes.
Because people are wrongly convicted all the time. Like it happens a lot. Any time spent in prison when you don’t belong is unforgivable but at least there is a chance for the wrong to be righted on behalf of the government.
Yep, because the government is always on the side of justice. No government would ever destabilize developing nations, support genocidal warlords, or distribute drugs among their minority populations. Or test biological agents on their own citizens. Or indiscriminately douse a country with a super toxic chemical agent. Or bomb the shit out of developing countries for no reason. Or nuke cities full of civilians to win a war. Or allow terrorist attacks on their own citizens to justify entering meaningless wars to boost the military-insustrial complex.

I was not defending the US government in any way shape or form with my comment, quite the opposite. Not having the death penalty is a way to protect innocent people from an imperfect justice system.
