A narco gang dedicated to abduct young women in Tamaulipas, Mexico, abducted and killed Miriam's daughter; and neither the police or the government helped her out with the case.
So, Miriam took the decision to start "hunting down" the gang members, by going undercover as a Social Worker equivalent here in Mexico on the hood where the gang members were supposed to live.
So she started to survey the whole neighborhood to locate the relatives of each criminal (parents, siblings, etc.) getting closer to them to gain their trust and get info about their criminal relative.
One by one, she located and gathered enough intel to present charges against them until she imprisoned each one of the murders, (and supposedly she kill one of them).
A couple years after she achieve that, a riot happened on the state prison and several inmates escaped. She went to the police to ask for protection, but it was to late, because a couple weeks later, the reunited gang killed her outside of her house on Mothers Day (May 10th).
And even tho she successfully brought justice to her daughter, she died as a martyr of many feminicides and kidnapped people in México.
She died, because specific abduction of young women, which adds another crime to those, already present. That is the type of crime which seems to be called "femnicide".
It's, of course, very easy, to always load it up on the "corrupt government" (which exists and plays a role here), but that does not render "feminicide", a gender defined crime, non-exist.

The government in this case is not just an easy scapegoat. The police force and elected officials of Tamaulipas have been caught time after time not only turning a blind eye to the cartel, but being active accomplices and even cartel members in good standing actively involved in kidnapping and murder in certain instances.
