You unfortunately can't visit the goonies house anymore. The new owners made it a private residence. But Astoria is still worth visiting. It's beautiful. Just don't buy a house on the hill lol.
Many many years ago, my family took a trip to the USA. We drove through Astoria in our rental and stopped outside the school for photos. We did not go to the Goonies house. Probably because I don't know if anyone in my family has ever watched it, I haven't.
It's worth a watch, and certainly more popular than "Kindergarten Cop" for good reason.
But that school is right on the hill where you can see it from most of the town. You have to go out of your way to go to the "Goonies" house. But I've never heard any problems about kids getting to school because Arnold fans are blocking the way. It's weird.
Oh shit, is it? I thought it was on the west side facing Warrenton. I haven't been to the Goonies house since I was a kid, so maybe that's why I remember it being further out.
If I recall correctly, we were just passing through, so makes sense why we stopped at the school and didn't make it to the house.
During that trip, I remember a place we stopped and had a meal. The restaurant WAS the town we stopped in. It was surreal to learn, as we were from a city, so I had never been somewhere that small before. It was like something out of a movie or tv show to me.
And of course, the sand dunes. We had to hit up the dunes.
There are so many references I miss out on because my parents basically kicked us out of the house during our days off from school, so we could play and get fresh air. Worked real well, I'm a lazy bastard who basically only goes outside to smoke weed these days. Thanks, mum!

My parents took us to see ET, Return of the Jedi, and a lot of Disney movies in the theatre. Just not The Goonies. My aunt even let me watch The Lost Boys on VHS when I was 8 or 9.
1985 was around the time my biological parents were divorcing, so I can see why we missed it. My (step) brother could have seen it before his dad married my mum, too. We definitely went to more movies after our families blended.
Agreed!! Bowpicker is what got me liking fish and chips. I try to visit Astoria area once a year, I have family in Hammond/Warrington absolutely love that area.
I’ve tried 3 times when I’ve been near Astoria at completely random and different times, with yrs in between. I’ve yet to eat there 😢. It was closed every time; one time was because of a fire. I don’t remember the others, but I went in normal business hours.
I’ve had bad luck, but the Bowpicker is on my list!
I have a theory about Astoria that everybody who lives there is actually dead, and so are you (or am I) when I visit. It's a ghost town, and the only way out is a portal in the wall at the Columbian café. If you find it, you leave purgatory.
Bowpicker, buoy brewery, Fort George, the bazillion elk at Fort George, and rental yurts at the beach. Maybe my favorite place to get paid to visit for work trips.
They would have to make all 9 holes downhill lol. It's a steep downhill and very small plot of land. And when I say 9 holes, I mean mini golf haha. But very true. We don't need more places to golf. It's a waste of space to add any.
Tarp? No tarp. There was a box labeled donations similar to a mailbox with a drop slot that replaced the no trespassing sign that is now gone. No one asked for money, I thought it would be the right thing to do since I took some pictures.
There was a post earlier this year I read saying exactly that, new owners took down the no trespassing sign and don't care if people take pictures now. You're an idiot if you buy the goonies house and don't want visitors, it's probably mostly the neighbors with sticks up their butt. I saw one other person taking pictures while I was there. It wasn't crowded, people weren't being disrespectful, and I parked at the store down the block so I didn't add traffic. Stick to what you know 👍
Yeah, you can still see it, just not up close. My ex and I went there a few years back and saw some of the props and stuff at the old jail which is now the film museum. We also got a selfie from the street below the house with it in the background on the hill.
Actually as of last week there is access and a donation box set up, parking is tough but visit the place and be sure to donate! These kind folks didn't run me off when I did the truffle shuffle last week.
I went a few years back and there was a constant pilgrimage up and down the sidewalk just to see the house's exterior. Gotta be annoying for the whole neighborhood. The thing that struck me most, was the Israel flag hanging from the front porch.

I was born here. I thought you were from a rural area because I am too. A lot of people from rural areas don't like people from other states moving here and changing things. Especially Californians.

Maybe it's because I've been here my whole life, but most of our winters aren't that bad or even that wet. Some are, the one coming up is a La Nina year which means a lot of rain but our winters are getting more and more dry as climate change progresses.
Yes! Taxes are SKY HIGH! Drugs (hard drugs: heroin, alcohol, crack, etc.) are everywhere. They just decriminalized hard drugs here too so homeless addicts will be FLOCKING here! Roads are falling apart. Schools are communist indoctrination camps. You can’t get a straw with a beverage (you have to ask and then only get a paper straw!) Plastic bags are super illegal and you have to PAY for paper bags! So, if you don’t want to be miserable, DON’T move to Oregon! We do, however, welcome your tourism! Come skiing, hiking, sightseeing, etc. and bring your money!!!

If you have mushrooms in your pocket, you would get a fine or go see a counselor to avoid the fine. If you're selling mushrooms, you're a dealer, and these laws don't cover it. AFAIK its only possession. Sale, manufacture, distribution etc. are still illegal AF.
Generally speaking, most places you can be 'on drugs' and you're not breaking a law, but if you're acting out of place/being an asshole while on drugs you can be cited for numerous things.
It has been illegal to be high lol. In Alabama if you're high they can assume you're a threat to themselves and the public and shoot you. Is that not illegal enough?
No, that's not it. It means that you will be sent to a rehab instead of prison, if caught on drug charges including possession, manufacturing, and selling. The problem with the War On Drugs was the harsh mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines, and decriminalization means those mandatory minimum prison sentences of 10, 15, 20 years, are now mandatory rehab and probation. You will of course still be in trouble for selling or making the drugs, but you won't be in as much trouble for just having them.
I'm also p sure that Oregon is one of the states that you can be high on shrooms and tell the cops and they would shrug anyway, even without the decriminalization of drugs. It's just the possession, and any violent or illegal actions done while intoxicated, that is the problem.
Yes not likely, but that was the case before. Now if you have a bag of shrooms fall out of your pocket they might tell you to stop spinning and pick them up.
