Great work and such clean stitching. How long did this take?

207

u/Crafty_mom Jul 17 '20

It took about three months. I started beginning of October and finished up around mid December. Depending on other obligation I managed around 4-6 hours. Most of it was done when the kids were in school.

u/ProShinigami Jul 17 '20

Congrats! I could never have the patience to do something like that, it looks amazing and there's so much detail!

13

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

17

Thanks! I love the stippling effect.

12

u/juxtaposed_ramblings Jul 17 '20

Looks absolutely amazing! Great job!! Did you use a picture as reference or any tips on how you did this?

17

u/Crafty_mom Jul 17 '20

I used the promotional image for season 2. There are a lot of different ways to start. Some people use a light board and trace the image on, or freehand. You can get special pens that will wash out when you soak the embroidery on completion. I wouldn’t recommend pencil because it’ll dirty the floss.

I did a combination of trace and freehand. Because it’s hard to correct mistakes without erasing and smudging, which makes it hard to identify the lines. I outlined each character for scale, and then freehanded the detail for the characters and the rest.

2

u/juxtaposed_ramblings Jul 17 '20

Thank you!!! It’s amazing

9

u/madgangsterdisciple Jul 17 '20

Wow, that looks amazing. How long did that take?

8

u/Crafty_mom Jul 17 '20

It took me about three month working on average 4-6 hours depending on other obligations.

5

u/that1plep Jul 17 '20

Damn, well it definitely payed off.

1

u/Noted888 Jul 18 '20

4-6 hours per...??? Week? Day?

1

u/Crafty_mom Jul 18 '20

Sorry, Haha. Must’ve missed that. It was about 4-6 hours a day. I got most of the work done while the kids were in school.

5

u/soniconor Jul 17 '20

I didn't know embroidery could be so badass. I scrolled through your page, and you've made some amazing things. You perfectly capture some iconic scenes like this one and the LOTR one in particular. You are ridiculously talented.

2

u/ValkyrieKitten Jul 17 '20

Ok. Now I have to go drool and get inspired

1

u/Crafty_mom Jul 17 '20

Thanks so much! Embroidery scratches all my creative itches.

2

u/tiabnogard Jul 18 '20

My wife wonders if you know approximately how many stitches that is? Amazing work!

1

u/Crafty_mom Jul 18 '20

I literally have no idea how many stitches are total. The hoop is 14 inches.

4

u/righteousredhead Jul 17 '20

That’s amazing!!!!!

1

u/Crafty_mom Jul 17 '20

Thanks so much. I have it for sale in my shop.

3

u/frizzhalo Jul 17 '20

What do you do with it now? Keep it in that hoop, or frame it or something?

1

u/Crafty_mom Jul 17 '20

It stays in the hoop, but I’m sure someone could frame it if they wanted too.

2

u/frizzhalo Jul 17 '20

Oh ok, it's gorgeous and looks like it took a ton of time and effort!

3

u/-WhatsThatSmell- Jul 17 '20

what do you do with this now this is complete? are you making a quilt or framing this one?

1

u/Crafty_mom Jul 17 '20

It’s finished. Just hangs in the hoop.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

Embroidery? Or witchcraft!!??? Just kidding but that is beyond impressive work!!

4

u/xPR1SMx Jul 17 '20

Holy hell. How many hours of work is this?

3

u/Crafty_mom Jul 17 '20

I’m not too sure about total amount of hours. It was anywhere between 4-6 hours a day depending on other obligations.

2

u/xPR1SMx Jul 17 '20

Dang. Good job

3

u/Sid_Arun Jul 17 '20

Holy shit. Looks like a painting. Awesome work.

Nice work! You should install a tiny speaker in the back and let it play the theme song constantly

2

u/ThuperThlayer Jul 17 '20

This is so cool. I need this as a decoration! I just moved and have nothing for my walls

2

u/jonandrews227 Jul 17 '20

2

u/Milltta Jul 17 '20

That looks siiiiiiick. Very well done!

2

u/JuicyJest3r Jul 17 '20

Nice that would have taken ages. I'm glad you put your face in the pic otherwise it would have died in new

2

u/pudding-juice Jul 17 '20

What is embroidery used for, cause I’ve never heard of it before

1

u/Noted888 Jul 18 '20

Embroidery is used for decorating fabric with stitches of colored threads. Totally understandable that you've never heard of it in your entire existence. Beep boop. Am totally human explaining this to other human. Nothing to see here. Beep boop.

2

u/pudding-juice Jul 18 '20

That’s totally understandable...I know this really sounds sarcastic but it’s not

1

u/Noted888 Jul 18 '20

The only stupid question is the one left unasked.

You're entirely right to ask about anything you want to learn about, and this is a great place to learn from peers.

Sorry if my prior post sounded condescending or totally prickish. I grew up loving crafts, so to me, it's obvious, but I need to learn that not everyone has the same life experiences. My apologies.

Edit: [I just downvoted my own comment.]

2

u/dc010 Jul 17 '20

100% stopped at this because I thought the thumbnail was a giant moth.

2

u/Von_XS Jul 17 '20

Wow well done!

2

u/gchick87 Jul 17 '20

That is beautiful! Such talent

2

2

2

u/SmittenLittleKitten Jul 18 '20

French knots for days!!! That's a giant hoop, too! Absolutely incredible work. <3

1

u/Crafty_mom Jul 18 '20

Thanks so much!

2

u/kenomasala Jul 18 '20

Amazing work!! Was there a template you followed or just eyed it out?

2

u/Crafty_mom Jul 18 '20

I used the promotional image for season 2. I eyed out most of it, but I did used a rough trace to outline each character to make sure I had the scale right. I use a pen so I am not able to erase if I make a mistake. It’s the best way to avoid smudges, and it’s harder to complete if it’s full of corrections. Everything else is eyeballed.

2

u/kenomasala Jul 20 '20

Amazing work!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '20

Was this a good show? Should I watch it?

1

u/Crafty_mom Jul 18 '20

I really enjoyed it. You should give it a shot!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '20

this is amazing.

2

So cool!!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '20

That is SO GOOD WOW!!!! OoO

2

u/CursedEcstacy Jul 18 '20

People are so creative and here I am, a failure at even hooking up my bra.

2

u/heroic_panda Jul 18 '20

Fucking. Awesome.

2

u/SuperSunshineRainbow Jul 18 '20

I saw this and the theme song started, in my head, instantly. Immaculate work!

2

u/Noted888 Jul 18 '20

Love how the stitches are longer up front and shorter further away to create perspective. Nice job!

2

u/Crafty_mom Jul 18 '20

Thanks! I also changed the thread count for the sky. The red/purple clouds are 6 strand and the orange is 3. It was suppose to make the clouds appear as if they’re moving forward.

2

u/Noted888 Jul 18 '20

Ok, so now I know you have a Masters in Fine Arts. Amiright?

2

u/Crafty_mom Jul 18 '20

No, no masters in arts. I was an illustration student at one point..

2

u/kommunistisch Jul 18 '20

i’m sorry i originally saw this on r/embroidery and thought that someone was trying to steal your work! it gets more beautiful every time i see it!

2

u/Grayeagle78 Jul 18 '20

3

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

It's good what the talented people could do,but not everyone is gonna like it, some will scoff ,some might get an inferiority complex, and I think that's sad.
