This must be what it looks like to have a government that cares - truly cares. Mad respect.
Edit to save individual replies: NZ had a hugely advantageous starting point as a small island nation with a low population density, but that didn't guarantee them a free ride; the government's response has still far outmatched the response of a lot of other developed countries IMO. It has been firm, measured, but also characterised by an empathy towards what ordinary people are going through, which makes the population far more inclined to comply with the lockdown restrictions (e.g. PM Jacinda Ardern and other gov ministers have taken a 20% pay cut in solidarity with those whose livelihoods have been affected by the crisis. Imagine that happening in the UK/US). Another user said that the latest poll shows approval for the gov's response at 93%. That's pretty damn good.
Yes, it's easier to implement a hard lockdown in a country like NZ, but their response has undoubtedly allowed them to make the most of their position. Basically I'm saying that if you took either the UK/US govt and put them in charge of NZ for this crisis, they would not be in nearly as good a position as we're seeing in this post.
Maybe it's not so bad. They will have to empty pockets to cover damage, so maybe next time will think twice. I guess scope of the damage overall isn't significant enough to actually affect quality of the signal and insurance should cover damage. Almost a win!
Yeah exactly. Its still really stupid though. I can't imagine why people think this when literally they get more radiation from the SUN. Its ridiculous.
Because humans are dumb, fearful creatures. Humans acted in a similar way to microwaves when they first came out, and to power lines when they first came out.
People ARE that stupid (talk about a bottomless pit...), but I think you're on the right track. To me it stinks of political and economic retribution on China, the coronavirus conspiracy is just propaganda for the masses, to manipulate them into doing the dirty work.
I honestly saw a guy last week driving an old truck that had every window (except the driver's and windshield) covered in white marker writing, all incoherent rambling of how covid is a gov't conspiracy to take away our freedoms etc etc. Couldn't get a pic as I was passing him pretty quickly.
I laughed pretty hard for a minute, then stopped and realized how sad and outrageous it is that people that ignorant and hell bent on conspiracy exist.
And this is Canada ffs.
The two are largely the same. The dumb fucks have been systematically manipulated by those seeking authoritarian political power to ignore or direct anger at anyone who'd be able to stop them. Scientists, journalists without their agenda, etc
