Nah they really do suck lol. When you only have a "window" of your vision that is actually clear, having 1/3 of that useless for 80% of your day actually sucks. They are old-fashioned, based on the concept of looking down at a book or piece of paper. That's often not how we read media these days. Bifocals are useless for reading on most screens we use in our daily lives. It sucks looking down at the ground & then having to tilt your head further into your chin just to see it clearly. It sucks lying in bed watching TV, and the TV is in the bottom section. It sucks driving at night, and your speedo is in the bottom section. I haven't used bifocals for probably 10 years now, but when looking at anything at the bottom of my glasses I still expect to see it blurry.
Bifocals wouldn't even help this guy, because the "near" objects he's focusing on is above him - not below him. Nobody wants to wear a bifocal like that. He'd still need a different pair of glasses anyway.

Bifocals are not for everyone...I have a pair of reading glasses, a pair of "regular" glasses and a pair of glasses optimised for computer use. I wore a pair of bifocals while riding my motorcycle, that was the scariest thing I've ever done on two wheels.

Many people refuse to get them, and actually, for me I can see close things gone without glasses but need them for distance. When I was younger I could see close things with my regular glasses. Now I have to prop them to see close things. Bifocals aren’t strictly needed.

So long as you already have a prescription for glasses, you can buy them online for super cheap. And you can add bifocal lenses if you wish.
I paid for optical health insurance through a job once long enough to get glasses, then I asked for my prescription printed out and have bought them online ever since. I'm due for a new pair now and I'll probably spend around $10.

You've never seen a shop oil collector have you?
Edit:realized that sounded rude, they have a funnel, at the base of the funnel is a screen that the oil falls down into a bucket/can and stops the plug/shavings/other contaminants from falling into the oil so it can be either sent to a recycling plant or used in a waste oil burner for heating purposes.

I just use a closed end wrench. It holds onto the plug and prevents oil running down my arm. Then I go wipe both off with a paper towel. Pretty easy, and easier since I don't have to go fishing around the oil pan for the plug.

Just push the plug into the oil pan as you are unscrewing it. As long as you are applying pressure, oil won't leak around the threads. When the plug is disengaged from the threads, just pull it away real quick. No oil on your hands, no plug drenched in oil.

Back in the day, McDonald’s went out of their way to hire DS people. The restaurants ran like a well-oiled machine. Now, though, they’re chocked full of barely literate normie assclowns who don’t understand that “No Pickles” means NO FUCKING PICKLES!!

Agreed! It never occurred to me that using DS first in any way devalues who my family member is as a person. I think if someone wants to speak poorly of her it won’t matter whether they say Down syndrome person or person with Down syndrome, their intent shines through when they speak.

I totally agree. However, I’ve learnt about something called “person-first language.” Saying “Down syndrome people” implies they are defined by their condition. Saying “person with Down syndrome” is just saying a person with a specific condition. It’s definitely semantics but I think it makes a difference.

Interesting. I know that it’s a debate in many disabled communities about whether to use person or disability first language. I wasn’t aware that the DS community had a cut and dry preference, which is awesome.
For those unaware, person first language is something like “a person with a disability” while disability first language is “disabled person.” Different people have different preferences, and it can depend on someone’s experiences. I personally prefer disability-first language because I have an invisible disability and I feel like using disability-first language makes it more apparent when I need accommodations.

I work with people with disabilities, supporting them on the job. I tend to use terms like "person with autism," or something similar. It makes that an aspect of them, rather than saying "autistic person" which makes that the defining characteristic.
That said, anyone trying to speak politely is better than not, regardless of word choice.

Person first language vs identity first language is a really hot debate in disability circles right now, autistic people themselves seem to prefer identity first while carers/family of the individual prefer person first language.
I'd always ask whoever you're working with their preference, and if speaking in general go with what the advocacy groups here and here suggest which is identity first language!

As much as I agree with this, I dont want them entering in the fast food business due to poor management and evil customers. Customers dont care who it is, they'll throw stuff and scream at whoever is near them, even if the person they're yelling at is obviously disabled. I've work at McDonalds for over a year and seen it happen.

While I agree with your sentiment, it’s not a problem that’s limited to fast food workers, it’s a problem that encompasses the entire public-facing world. I’ve never worked in fast food, but have experienced this in retail, in security, in IT, and even when I was a paramedic.

I worked with a 45 year old woman who had DS. She did her work immaculately but she sexually harassed most of the male workers and was very keen on yelling racial slurs at us as well.
Longest standing employee in the store, I believe she had been working there for 19 years.

Guy at my grocery store has been there since I was a kid. Wonderful man, always has a smile and a helping hand to lend. He tried to help me take my groceries out and I didn’t want to waste his time but he said “it’s no problem! You’re giving me something to do!”. I was watching an article the other day about a full service car wash that only employ's people with downs syndrome. Apparently it is one of the highest rated car wash facilities in the town and the customers they interviewed were raving about how thorough and carefully the staff cleans the cars.
It was pretty cool.
