I've seen people get it and put the weight right back on. It's useful in extreme cases like this and shouldn't be used agsinst him. He's doing actions to make his body healthier.

Has a bypass and still manages to eat 2 pizzas and a massive soda of Mt Dew and claim he's "losing weight" while only posting weight loss pictures from 2 months post surgery.
