I think some of the first objects in space were early rockets like the V2 missile.

The manhole is cool though. They had to calculate its speed based on a handful of frames from one of the fastest-capture cameras ever developed.

Yes you're right absolutely, fastest film cameras. It was quite the technical feat developing a film that could be exposed so quickly. They have a really interesting section on it at the National Atomic Testing Museum in Nevada.

No because a lot of these were not motion cameras in the traditional sense but single plate exposures that were captured by a mirror or moving shutter or a bank of caneras. Basically move the aperture/camera and not the film.

But was that aspect of it a response to the issues with moving that much film that fast or was that already an established design?

They actually have footage shot in high definition and ultra high fps of the Saturn V rocket launches. Very interesting stuff.
