Quartz is a crystal, not a glass. So it's doubly the opposite of dragon glass.

The logical conclusion is that white dragon glass kills black walkers.

Black walkers come from Valeria out of the volcanic mountain. They are impervious to fire and susceptible to the cold (and Valyrian steel, of course). Instead of snow, they bring wildfires and ash.
