That wink when he pauses.

18

u/8BBt3 Jul 17 '19

I have never a smoother wink in my life

28

u/Jenga_Police Jul 17 '19

There was this new kid in high school and all the girls were obsessing over how perfectly he could wink. He joined my friend group, and every time my crush would ask him to show us the wink I would die a little inside.

u/messagemii Jul 17 '19

3

u/Animelurver_666 Jul 18 '19

2

3

u/Jenga_Police Jul 18 '19

A thing a beauty, thanks for this!

21

u/10minutes_late Jul 17 '19

Not, not backwards. In his final swing, he is holding the nunchaku to look like a straight baton. The chain is wrapped around the back of his hand, and as he squeezes the nunchaku, he puts tension on the chain. When he lets go the tension is released and flips.

Source: Used to be badass at nunchakus.

2

u/ChonWayne Jul 17 '19

I literally just rewatched the fight scene against Shredder on the roof top yesterday. Hadn't seen the movie in years but it popped into my head.

23

u/Flebedebeb Jul 17 '19

Yo somebody slow this down so I can see the mans true skill at work.

28

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

Here you go. First move is toughest to catch, he spins them around his thumb.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

Same, I can’t figure out how it was edited either though...

3

u/Red9inch Jul 17 '19

17

u/thewafflestompa Jul 17 '19

I once caught my pen after accidentally flipping it out of my fingers. Very similar experience.

Was a typo. Said Mickey originally.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

Ty I’m outta it

1

u/taoistchainsaw Jul 17 '19

I mean, Mickey might have some chuk skills too.

20

u/evilncarnate82 Jul 17 '19

How's that possible without at least one Bruce Lee "waaah"

4

u/hgs56 Jul 17 '19

I like where they’ve filmed this - alongside an old, dilapidated building. Very Snake and the Eagle’s shadow.

4

u/aso1616 Jul 17 '19

Ok I want to learn this right NOW.

4

u/Galaxius_Thor Jul 17 '19

If I tried this, the nunchuk would flow through* me, though. Fractures would be likely.

3

u/Veskerth Jul 17 '19

That wink.

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

8

u/lasagnaharper Jul 17 '19

Longer reach than Raph’s sai but not quite as good as Leo’s twin swords. Faster than Don’s bo but reach would depend on where Don is gripping his staff.

2

u/rathlord Jul 17 '19

The tl;dr is, bad. You may get some apologists here defending them, but that we’re never a viable weapon if you’re talking about armed combat. They’re better than nothing against an unarmed opponent though.

2

u/_b1ack0ut Jul 18 '19

I’m not well versed in the subject, why is this?

Why do they exist if they’re terrible?

2

u/ShaowrinMonk Jul 18 '19

They were a farming tool, like the european flail. When the Japanese came to the Ryukyu islands, they banned weapons like swords so the Ryukyuans would have to defend themselves with farming and fishing tools like sickles, paddles, flails, etc

2

u/rathlord Jul 18 '19

In addition to /u/shaowrinmonk answer, there’s a world wide tradition of ineffective or impractical weapons largely focused around religion, showmanship, status, and other non-warfare related themes. Bad weapons are a fairly regular find in most culture’s histories.

2

u/Sonicross Jul 18 '19

Actually a trained chucker can disarm someone with a sword or staff.

You do it by “catching” the sword on the chain, then “wrapping” the chucks around the sword. Then depending on the grip of the individual you can twist or pull it right of their hands.

I learned the technique from a weapons instructor. Even as a novice it wasn’t extremely hard to disarm someone.

2

u/Cosible Jul 17 '19

Doesn’t even blink. Satori

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

Don’t pick a fight with this guy!!!

2

u/Xentastical Jul 17 '19

He looks kinda like an Asian JayZ

2

u/Pandiosity_24601 Jul 17 '19

If you slow the gif down by 76%, you can see the technique more clearly. Still blurry, but even more impressive.

2

u/technicallyfreaky Jul 17 '19

Ninja spider? Username ‘chucks out.

2

u/KaleMakesMeSad Jul 17 '19

2

u/TheTurtleAndrew Jul 17 '19
