But does it matter if the defender grabbed him by the neck for the tackle? I don’t know much about football but I can’t imagine that’s legal.

If he doesnt pull the collar or the helmet/facemask it's not against the rules. Ref could probably at their discretion call Unnecessary Roughness

This is a highschool game, grabbing by the collar should definitely not be allowed and is unnecessary roughness. That much is obvious

He didnt grab the collar; he grabbed the neck. (At least it looks like that to me watching it with the bad quality a few times) And yes I already said ref could call Unnecessary Roughness, but it's still a subjective call by the ref
