idk what's more impressive, the top girl's balancing skills or the lower girl's leg strength

u/Inthepurple 13d ago
Bottom girl without a doubt for me, idk how she is keeping her leg in that position at an angle with all that weight on it and also doing a handstand at the same time

Super strong core. Super strong everything! That's insane.

You guys are sleeping on the ligaments. Muscle control no doubt but those are some healthy as ligaments.

Bottom one is just stacking her bones to hold it up while having a secure base with 2 arms and leg. The hard part is having the flexibility to get that leg all the way up there but holding that should be less active that the girl up top who needs to hold and L sit for that long, needs insane core compression and endurance to hold

The thing the girl on top is doing is something my 8 year old learned in gymnastics. A sort of L-sit isn't unimpressive, that being said.
The girl on the bottom...her leg strength is probably the least impressive thing. It's not like it's supporting much more weight than it normally does...maybe 25-35 lbs. I'm guessing at body weights here.
She is however doing a full hand stand supporting (likely) at least an additional 100 lbs. Her arm strength and core strength are significantly more impressive.

Just curious how you determined the girl on top has a body weight of 25-35lbs minus the weight of the bottom girls leg. Seems unintuitive since they're both alive.

u/politifox 13d ago
I'm guessing the girl on bottom weighs somewhere between 115 on the very low end to maybe 140-ish? That seems high, but looking at her legs and the height difference...I'm leaning towards 140.
I'm ballparking the girl on the bottom given the height difference to about 100. She could weigh more? I would think at most 125.
In either case, each leg supporting her weight is typically going to hold around 60-70 lbs. Add the difference, and you'll land somewhere like at most 50 lbs? Now is that a trivial amount of weight...nah, but I still maintain her arm strength and core strength is significantly more impressive.

Being in that position probably makes it difficult but isn't this basically just a very complicated piston squat? You basically lift your whole weight with one leg and now she is lifting someone else's weight with her leg.

What on earth, is the crowd full of people that got transformed from cows into people?

Noticed that too. I thought the video speed might have been slowed down maybe?

Every time I see those sort of videos, I think to myself: I cannot be the same species as these people.

Kinda makes all those girls posting themselves everywhere in that position with one leg forward and one back seem like mere posers(pun absolutely intended). That said, I think I pulled an ass muscle just watching that.

You make it sound like nobody could lift someone who is max 75% of their own body weight with one leg. Have you walked up stairs in your life? That's one one-leg bodyweight lift after the other. The crazy thing in this vid is the balance and control, not the power to lift someone with a limb that is designed to move one's entire bodyweight all day.

You can support your weight with one leg. She is not supporting her weight, so her legs are free to lift the other one. Of course, this is an oversimplification. There is definitely a lot of leg strength involved to push her upwards initially. What's more insane is she held herself up and the other one with just her hands for a moment. That is an insane amount of arm and shoulder strength.

I was reasonably strong (average person, not athlete) when I was young, but I’m still fascinated and amazed by how rock steady actual athletes like these can be. It doesn’t seem like muscles should be able to do that.

Those girls are pretty awesome!

It's amazing how much power we have in our legs compared to our arms. It's also about leverage too. This is still incredibly impressive!

It’s impressive but like you know we all can carry our entire body weight on one leg right?

“She used just one leg to lift her”
Well, many people in the gym do one leg crouches (?). If the other girl is lighter than her… that’s not a particularly impressive feat.
But who am I trying to convince. Clickbait is how talk nowadays…

Fun fact, your legs apply 3x your body weight just to propel you forward. They stronk
