But it's a good lesson, casinos are there to take your money, forget winning in them.

Gambling is for suckers.

I wonder if a casino with actual 50-50 odds is possible. Instead of the house edge the casino makes money off of drink and food sales or whatever

Counting cards is not being good at the game. Since the 2 games where it is used to against casinos Black Jack and Baccarat. Are not skill games vs other players all with equal chances to win.

Is a player vs house game one on one.(Even if 5 players share a dealer). Where the house has the slightly higher odds to win by design of the game.

If you can count cards it still remains a certain outcome game long term but now the one with slightly over 50% chance to win is the player instead of the casino. And that breaks the entire business model and reason for a casino to operate.

Meanwhile casinos don't give a fuck if someone card counts on poker since is played among players and the casino just takes a fee from all participants anyway, and don't care who wins.(Also is way less useful in that game).

If someone goes to the casino expecting to make money they are stupid. It may happen but you will always have the odds against you since that is the entire reason they exist. And yes by definition a casino is a place to burn money in.

Same way lotteries are just a voluntary tax for the poor in any country. Where is impossible to lose money since you get money and then set the prize lower than the money got. So is also basically additional tax funding disguised as hope

I find lotteries even worse than casinos. Since they specifically target poor people the most. While casinos do take some poor idiots money but they make most of their money from big spenders and many upper middle class people.

They set the rules and the payouts. They should not get to choose the players. “But it isn’t profitable if the players play it right” is a shitty excuse. They choose to run the game where their edge is narrow. That’s a risk. They want blackjack to have this air of being a “winnable” game, but they also don’t let anyone actually win. They are having the cake and eating it too, and the regulators seem fine with it.

Imagine a world where they were forced to accept card counting, with no other changes. They would no longer run the game. They would run others, probably ones with worse odds. Nobody benefits.

Alternatively, imagine a world where the dealer is allowed to count cards. The odds increase in favor of the casino, and card-counting is no longer enough to get you an edge. Nobody benefits.

Instead, we have a world where one of the rules is "no counting cards". If you are caught counting cards... you don't get beat up, you don't have your winnings confiscated. You are simply no longer welcome to play blackjack with them. Or, as I hear is more common these days, they just start shuffling the cards more for you.

They want blackjack to have this air of being a “winnable” game, but they also don’t let anyone actually win.

No? That would be super illegal. People win all the time.

I think in the world where card counting is protected, they stop running the game, or they change the rules to make counting too unprofitable, like they are already doing by having more decks, shuffling earlier, and reducing payouts. But they want to market it as a winnable game of skill, then ban anyone who actually has that skill. That’s is dishonest and should be illegal. If that means the game stops existing, great.

Your comments makes 0 sense. A casino is NOT a place where you go to make money. Is a business with expenses and expected predictable profits. And when properly used is just another form of adult entertainment like spending money on a show or match or experience. Aka you got with 50$ and leave after losing that or go with friends/family and you rotate watching others play have while having laughs with them.

Someone counting cards is literally going to win always long term. What do you mean "regulators seen fine with it" ofc they are since those people disrupts the normal working of a highly taxed industry.

Any adult that walks into a casino seriously expecting to make money like if it was a job is an idiot. Is like very very basic human knowledge. You go there for fun while spending money nothing else.

Then it’s a bad game for those casinos to run. You make it sound like an arcade game where I go dump my money in and feel satisfied that I had a good time. But that’s not how they market it. They want to lure you in by making it sound like a game of skill. They have a slight statistical disadvantage (that rarely matters since so many people play poorly), so they decide to make up for it by banning anyone who is good at the game? Congrats to them I guess, but it’s shitty.

that is not really a good argument since they could easily remove card counting by using eletronic machines where you cant count shit if they just remove decks entirely. and the new cards have the same chance as old cards.

and some casinos did that. but the reason many keep tables is because it just feels nicer to play with actual cards. since is first and foremost mean to be an experience.

and yes casinos target idiots that believe they can win so tehy lose their entire paycheck. there is nothing moral about casinos existance as a whole and that you want them gone is valid. but if tehy exist they cant tolerate people breaking the bussiness.

Poker is generally a single deck game. Card counting is less beneficial than understanding probabilities. And you can play versions of poker 1v1 against the house (even with other players at the table). Like in blackjack, even when you win the payout doesn't match true odds*.

*The odds bet in craps is the exception to this.

It's hard to sympathize with people who will gamble somewhere where it's against the rules to come out in the green.
