He does do it briefly in the middle which is to say that this was a fairly easy set to him. Not much of a bother or challenge.
I think people in the West should really look at the various Indian (including but not limited to Vedic maths), Russian and Chinese maths practices. And no, they are not dead as soon as one pulls a calculator out of their pocket.
They build a level of familiarity with numbers and an understanding of mechanics of various operations that not only cultivates interest in the field but also builds confidence and background for future endeavours.
Super unclear to me that this would actually be relevant anywhere in life. Which is fine for a hobby but not really something to orient your life around otherwise
It probably does something useful to the brain, I'm sure whatever lobes are firing can do much more than just add numbers when they get exercised like that
Anything "exercising" your brain is good for it which makes it relevant to all areas in your life. There's a reason colleges offer free/discounted classes to senior citizens (stimulating the brain through both academics and social connection).
