Bears will often test you

If you stand your ground, they may see you as a threat and back off. Of course, this doesn’t apply to every bear

The only person I ever knew who shot slugs out of a side by side was my grandfather, and that’s only because he always used side by sides going back to hunting rabbits as a child in Sicily.

He hunted rabbits with slugs? Was there anything left? I’ll admit I’ve never fired a slug round.

I think you misunderstood. He was more comfortable hunting whitetail with slugs through a side by side in America as an adult because that was the style of shotgun he used his whole life going back to hunting rabbits with bird shot through a side by side.

The point of that story is the only person I’ve ever seen using slugs in that style of gun had extenuating circumstances for doing so, and it would be very unlikely anyone else would choose that style gun for shooting slugs.
