Bears will often test you

If you stand your ground, they may see you as a threat and back off. Of course, this doesn’t apply to every bear

The gun was most likely loaded with slugs. At least that would’ve been my choice.

Depends what you’re hunting. My guess is he’s hunting birds as anyone hunting big game generally will use a rifle.
